Re: Mark on small pot very heavy covered in black

It could be Chinese or Japanese. The mark can be read as "宮岐" or "岐宮", depending on how you read it. If the pot is really old stuff (made in 19th century), you read from the right to left. If not, your read it from left to right. The font is the old seal character. The image in t...

Re: Help identifying mark chinese - ZhengYoung?

There are no hallmarks. There is only the name of the engraver in the last image. It looks like a recent one. I know it might sound offensive. But silverware made in that period usually came with hallmarks specifying the silver content like "足銀", and the name of the workshop that made it....

It is a first-prize medal issued to researchers for technical innovation in the steel industry around 2011 which is the most prestigious prize in the field of metallurgy in China. It weighs 100 grams and is 999 silver. On the back of the medal are names and coats of arms of the insititutions and co...

Re: Strange English hallmark on a spoon

I don't know. I brought the said spoon and a 800 Italian fork and some other pieces to the bullion shop. Both were tested by the guy who buys silver and gold for a living. The Italian one checks out alright. The test result of the spoon came as a surprise. My other unmarked British cake lifter is te...

Re: asian china japan india silver hallmarks identify help

Thanks a lot! The bowl and ladle are marked "เงินที่ 1 พิเศษ". Their wieght is the same as marked. However, the silver content does not. I took both to a bullion shop and had them scanned with a silver-purity-testing scanner. The bowl contains about 50 to 67 percent of silver, while the la...

Re: The word ENGLND as a silver hallmark

I have a spoon with the same kind of mark. It is tested 98% silver. But in your case, I am not sure if it is silver or not. Bring it to a bullion shop and have it tested.

Re: Strange English hallmark on a spoon

There is the update. I took the spoon and another unmarked cake lifter to a bullion shop. The guys there tested both with their XRF machines. It turns out that the said spoon is 98% silver and the unmarked cake lifter is 54%. I posted my question here because when I put the spoon on the table, place...

Re: asian china japan india silver hallmarks identify help

The second image is the name of the silversmith "陈伟秦",and the third is probably the name of the company "大园". I am typing in simplified Chinese while the hallmakrs are in traditional Chinese. So there might be some differences.

Re: asian china japan india silver hallmarks identify help

I have something similar. Except the bottom mark says that "it is made of 1st degree silver and it weighs 55 baht". Could you enlighten me on the purity of the so-called "1st degree silver"? I have not found much info about it in English. Thanks! Hi, The Thai writing (written wit...

Help identifying a Supposedly London Hallmark

I recently found a 4-piece tea set with the following marks. I checked the name of the silversmith "TB&S"; they are probably called "Thomas Bradbury & Sons". However, They are from Sheffield instead of London as indicated by the uncrowned leopard head. I found some other ...

Re: Strange English hallmark on a spoon

Sorry, I did not make myself clear. I used a N52 Neodymium magnet to test it. The spoon exhibited properties similar to my other sterling silver items. Meanwhile, my other ESPN things failed these tests. That is why I made the tentative conclision. Obviously, I know that anything short of the 925 st...

Strange English hallmark on a spoon

Can anyone tell me anything about the mark that I found on a spoon? The spoon responds well to the magnet test. So I guess there is at least some silver in it. But I have found nothing except the mark "England", which seems quite strange as British silverware is not marked like this. Any s...

A question about Italian silver hallmarks

I think I bought some Italian silver faltware. I saw the first mark "15 VC", checked silvercollection.it and found out they were made by DITTA SAMBONET who was active between 1935 and 1971. The date explains why there is a fasces between "15" and "VC". However, there is...

Are these Italian silverware?

I found a small dish, and a bowl on stand. The dish is only marked with a number that looks like "800". The bowl is marked with "800" and "FS". They seem like some Italian silverware, but I could not find any sources to confirm my speculation. Can anyone help me with th...
