Re: Anvil mark, Josef Reiner ?

Hi Ringo and Bahner,
Ringo's spoon was bought by Reiner's and identified as No. 293 of the old Reiner catalogue. So we can add another mark to Reiner in German marks. That was only possible because of Ringo's posting. Thank you, Ringo.

Re: Interesting marks on very old silver tureen (?)

In Breslau the silver content at that time (year letter N = around 1810) was probably 12 Lot that means 750/1000 pure silver.
A crown with 9 pearls is a count's coronet. To find the count you have to look into the nobility records.

Re: Anvil mark, Josef Reiner ?

Hi R ingo and Bahner, I think it could by all means be an early Reiner Mark. It is true, the earliest mark you find in literature is that of a griffin (not a lion) sitting on top of the Krumbach coat of arms, but - some years ago I found five absolutly identical coffee spoons, one with the Krumbach ...

Re: Austrian holder ? Tukan Wien 800

Hi Jörg, Cheryl and Bahner,
thanks you for your answers. So I have exchanged the spout for "mager" and "fett" in my description!
But what about the maker?

Austrian holder ? Tukan Wien 800

Hi all, found that mysterious object 450 g in silver 800 marked with AKO, Tukan W 4 and 800. I suppose it to be for some liquor. On the rim, on the left one reads "mager" (=meagre, skim ?), where you can pour out the liquid over the spout, on the right one reads "fett" (=fat, gre...

B.E. are just initials and the not readable inscription might be the seller.

Re: Is this a German spoon?

Yes, it is a German Spoon. Maker is Wilkens, Bremen. Halfmoon - standing for silver - is the old mark of Wilkens before the screw press.

Re: silver mounted tooth GH.

Hallo Francais,
it could have been a part of a so-called Charivari. That is a kind of chain (Schmuckkette) people wear in combination with bavarian dress on their belly. The maker I don't know.

Big spoon after 1886 with unknown maker's mark

Hi all, on my spoon, more than 27 cm long, there is a to me unknown mark which I found on another table spoon too. I think it is the same maker!? Does anybody know him? http://i1170.photobucket.com/albums/r537/bridiallo/Gemselffel_HK_800_278cm_gekreuzte_.jpg http://i1170.photobucket.com/albums/r537/...

Up to now without answer. The result of an "x-ray examination" was 700/1000 silver. Perhaps Trevor could move the post to "Other Countries".

Re: Identifing german silver marks

it is Berlin. The bear and L stands for the assay master J.W.D.Friedrich 1854-1863 and the D stands for the second assay master L.Th.Wendelboe 1854-1864. W is probably the maker's mark, which I don't know.

Re: Can anyone help me to identify these marks?

Hi dognose, Vereinigte Silberfabriken Düsseldorf is right, but this company was not the result of a merger of two Hanau firms. VSF was the foundation of two of the five sons of Anton Bahner: Anton Bahner jun. and Wilhelm Bahner. Franz Bahner in 1895 opened Franz Bahner later part of Mansfelder Silb...
