Thank you both for the information. It is interesting the U.S. Patent office allowed such similar patterns to be patented the very same year. I believe this set to be by F. H. Clark of Memphis, TN. I was wondering is someone could help me identify the purpose of the set. That's incredible, thanks. Makes perfect sense my family was from Martinsville, VA about 50 miles south of Roanoke, VA. So it's possible a member purchased the spoon in his store. So the date would be around 1890?

Also on the knife blade. That would be an appropriate motif for a fruit course set. Appears to be grapes on knife handle could it also be Bacchus?
