Re: Russian Spoons 1890 Moscow - Maker?

Thanks Qrt.S and AG2012! I didn't find any results when searching Konstantin Knyazev, but searching Константин КНЯЗЕВ I found a niello spoon bearing a similar mark that is attributed to him (see below). I think it is likely difficult to find many examples as he early had a relatively short career. W...

Russian Spoons 1890 Moscow - Maker?

Hi Forum, I am looking for assistance in identifying the maker of these Russian spoons. This is what I have decoded so far: AP over 1890: Assayed by A. Romanov in 1890 St. George slaying dragon: Moscow 84: (0.875 silver millesimal fineness) KK?: Unidentified maker Any help is greatly appreciated. Th...

Re: Middle Eastern Dish - Silver?

Hi Damon, thanks for the alternate assessment. I did a little more digging and found examples (including Moroccan) of dishes that had script for "metal work". Most of these examples were copper/brass or silver plated copper/brass, but a small number were silver. I think ultimately I will n...

Re: Middle Eastern Dish - Silver?

I should note that "dishes" in thread title may have been a misnomer as I now believe these may actually be ashtrays.

Re: Middle Eastern Dish - Silver?

Thank you again AG2012, I appreciate the detailed response! I'm also glad you that pointed out the difference between millesimal units and zolotniki, as I had been misinformed that Persian/Iranian silver was the later. Cheers.

Middle Eastern Dish - Silver?

Hi Forum, There is a set of 4 middle eastern dishes that I am trying to identify. The questions I am trying to answer are: 1) Are they silver? (if yes, what purity?) 2) What region are they from? 3) Can an approximate date be determined from the style/marks? https://i.imgur.com/i8dsrUP.jpg https://i...

Re: Russian Sugar Bowl - Authentic?

Thank you both for your excellent responses. A quick search of John Blasball shows a lidded jar with an identical maker mark attributed to him. I am happy to hear that it is likely authentic. AG2012, can you share your thoughts on the suspicious finial? Are you suspecting that the original finial wa...

Russian Sugar Bowl - Authentic?

Hi Forum, Looking for an opinion on whether this Russian sugar bowl is authentic. As far as I can tell the marks are: M*K over 1833: assayed by Mikhail Mikhailovich Karpinsky in 1833 Anchor/scepter: St. Petersburg 84: 84 zolotniki (0.875 parts silver) FB or JB?: Unknown maker mark The marks didn't r...

Re: Darmstadt Silver Mark

Very interesting! Thanks for the feedback, I hadn't even considered some of these suggestions. The engraving does have a resemblance to another Romanian spoon in this forum: https://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=34902&hilit=romania&start=20 However if this style was widely ...

Darmstadt Silver Mark

I have what I believe are pre-1886 German/Austrian spoons. My initial research indicates the following: 12 = 750/1000 fineness Rampant lion within an oval? = Darmstadt/Hesse? The rampant lion within an oval was supposedly used in Darmstadt as early as the 1700s, however the engraving style looks lik...
