I did not think that it was the Grand Duke, I thought it might be a family member, in those day's I lead to believe that often that people were appointed to positions in companies solely due to their connections to the Imperial family. Thank you Peter for for informative replies, and thank you for sharing you knowledge. It is quite hard to find any good reference books, in English on Dutch silver. This was a nice find from a car boot sale.

Thanks for the reply, what does that mean the it is older than the axe mark, and I say comments that often this mark has been forged, for the want of a better word

Thank you Qrt.s, very informative, are there any books worth getting on assay marks, I have been trying to find out for example if certain silver masters used only one assay master or if they used multiple ones. Additionally does any know if there is a definitive book, research paper on masters/work...
