Re: Small Spoon Gold Colored - Coin?

Thank you all for the info! I tried and tried to find that mark with no success. The 13 did make me think German 13 Loth.

Small Spoon Gold Colored - Coin?

This 5-5/8" spoon has a definite gold color to it, even after polishing. It seems like it could be coin, but is possibly a bit too stiff. The back of the handle is marked "13 J & Co 13" with a crown above the "J & Co". At first I thought it might be nickel silver or ...

Unknown Sterling Hollow Handle Serving Fork

This 8-1/2" serving fork has a sterling hollow handle -- the rest is silverplate. The only marks are "STERLING" stamped on the handle and two small German-style crosses on the reverse of the neck. There is a monogram on the very end of the handle. Any thoughts as to maker? Thanks, Dav...

Scandia Affinerings Vaerk, Denmark? It doesn't quite match the marks for this company, but could it be?

Petite Server - Solid Silver?

Not sure on this 6-1/2" petite server. It feels very "soft", easily bent. The maker's mark might be "SAV" or "SAU", or that could be upside down. Anyone have a guess? Scandinavian? German? Thanks, Dave https://i.postimg.cc/Hns8TpCp/IMG-3028.jpg https://i.postimg.cc...

Unmarked sterling Twisted Master Butter Knife

This twisted handle master butter knife is marked STERLING on the blade, but I can find no other marks. Based upon the handle and blade pattern styles, I would guess sometime in the late 1800s. Any guess as to maker? Thanks, Dave https://i.postimg.cc/HkxprBnr/IMG-2874.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/R0J4Rh...

Re: Koch & Bergfeld - Silverplate or Solid Silver?

Hello,
I believe that mark is actually a scratch/imperfection. It certainly does appear to be a mark, but under 30x magnification it is an irregularly shaped imperfection/nick/scratch. I didn't notice it until you pointed it out because it is extremely tiny.

Thanks,
Dave

Koch & Bergfeld - Silverplate or Solid Silver?

I have a set of 6 dinner forks (8") and 1 place or serving spoon (8-1/2") and I am interested as to whether they are solid silver, and if so, what silver content. According to my research, the marked used -- "KOCH & BERGFELD" preceded by a key, was used up until 1870. That da...

Help with Maker's Mark -- W&D

This 9" coin silver serving spoon bears the mark "W&D", but I cannot find the maker with that mark. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dave https://i.postimg.cc/zG5Tb6D1/IMG-2430.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/d0NCf02q/IMG-2431.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/FKHcGSJW/IMG-2432.jpg https:...

Unknown Rocker Ink Blotter

I apologize if I've posted in the wrong area, but I cannot find a maker's mark on this 5-1/4" silverplate rocker ink blotter. I've taken it completely apart but cannot find a mark anywhere. Any help as to where to look, or a guess as to maker or age, or country of origin, would be greatly appre...

Help with ID

I believe this 5-1/8" spoon is coin silver, but I cannot ID the maker. I can see that it has been made in two pieces and soldered together, with what I believe is the maker's mark just below the solder line on the reverse of the handle. I assume this is so that it could not be separated and the...

Re: Worn marks on Gravy Ladle - Goat Monogram

Phil,
Thanks so much for the help -- I didn't notice the "pip" on the bottom of the lion passant mark. It's amazing how the tiniest detail can really open everything up!

Thanks again,
Dave

Re: Worn marks on Gravy Ladle - Goat Monogram

Most of the date letter is worn away, but the circular left side of the letter with a line coming down to the edge leads me to think a script "Q", 1771. https://i.postimg.cc/Z5cKV39c/IMG-2006.jpg Also, the city code does appear to be the crowned leopard head. https://i.postimg.cc/65q09LK7/...

Small 3" Bon Bon Spoon? Joseph Taylor 1816?

I believe this 3" piece appears to have been made by Joseph Taylor in 1813 if I am reading the hallmarks correctly. The date mark, an "s" with serifs, has a similar look to both the 1790 and 1816 marks, but the maker "IT" seems to match Joseph Taylor, who began making pieces...

Worn marks on Gravy Ladle - Goat Monogram

The hallmarks are pretty worn on this 7-1/2" gravy ladle, so I'm not sure of the city. It has the lion passant and the maker (R.S), so I checked for that maker's mark and found Robert Scott II in New Castle. But as I said, I'm not sure of the city -- and the date code is also worn away. I'm not...
