Thank you so much for your replies. I thought it might not be wide enough to be a sardine fork (1-1/8" at the tine tips), and it is quite short for a meat fork. Perhaps a small chipped beef fork? Did they make those in the late 1800s? I tried Replacements, but they have 4 pages of pieces in thi...
I am unsure of the piece type of this 5-3/4" serving fork -- Towle Dover sterling pattern. The piece has "1897" inscribed on the back of the handle at the top. Thanks! https://i.postimg.cc/ZqLdsBX8/IMG-8591.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/HsfXrCQy/IMG-8590.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/Y9qm52wJ/I...
The photos have gone away, but I have finally figured out what this is. It is a Cognac/Brandy Warmer. From what I have read, the piece is placed atop a cup of coffee, brandy / cognac is poured into it and lit on fire. It is then poured into the coffee. Here is an updates photo: https://i.postimg.cc/...
I am pretty sure this is Godinger Baroque, but I cannot find this piece anywhere. I have looked on Replacements for a 5-3/4" fork like this one with no luck. The piece shows Godinger on the back and I can't find any other Godinger pattern like it. The piece has no pierce like most other Baroque...
I neglected to mention in my original post that I have seen this type of thing before (maker's name struck through) a couple of times, but I can't remember what pieces or makers.
Just a question about a line through the makers mark on a Sweet Pea gumbo spoon. It shows Holmes & Edwards as the maker, but it has a line through it. Hagan shows Sweet Pea makers as Associated Silver, 1890 Jennings Bros, and Paragon. Any ideas regarding the strike through? Does it have somethin...
Not sure if this one is coin or plate. The only mark is "A G STONE". It has a bright cut floral pattern, similar to LILY or MYRTLE. Any ideas? Regards, Dave https://i.postimg.cc/bvQXtng5/IMG-7674.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/nh9fngDp/IMG-7675.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/7Lv8h937/IMG-7676.jpg http...
Admin, I apologize for posting the price I paid for a recommended reference book. I was not attempting to sell anything, nor was I asking the value of anything. I will never again post anything that contains a dollar sign.
I also noticed the figure before the PAT mark appears to be a combined H and E, with the right side of the H being the left side of the E. Could this be for Holmes & Edwards, with Mermod Jaccard being the retailer mark, as you pointed out?
I came across this beautiful place/oval soup spoon made by Mermod Jaccard & Co. I discovered the bright cut pattern is virtually identical to Jac Rose (Holmes & Edwards, 1892). The maker's mark shows "MERMOD JACCARD & CO" with a patent date of 1886. H&E Jac Rose shows a pat...
This silverplate windsor pattern soup spoon has a mark of: A B [British flag?] A [EPNS inside a shield] [A1] Any help is appreciated. This fork appears to be German, or maybe French. The 40 makes it appear to be silverplate German, but I'm not sure. Any help is appreciated. I was going through some of my past unknowns and came across these again. I thought I would try to revive the search by posting new, and possibly better, photos. The last 3 photos were taken through a 10x microscope. I always thought the first two letters were B's, but on closer inspection they do n...
I found it -- finally. I had to go through every sterling pattern from every sterling maker alphabetically -- got to the M's -- Manchester, Canonnade pattern. But I got it :)
