I think the JWH mark is more likely the mark of Joseph Walker Hinchliffe of Dumfries. You're probably right in that he was retailing Henderson's wares.
This is a little beaker made from a thaler (silver coin). It says as much on the bottom along with what I presume to be a silversmith's name, because of the anvil and hammers design. It's difficult to read, but I think it's Geltiben or Geteiben. I think if anyone knows the silversmith, then where he...
This is a dognose teaspoon made c.1700, possibly before the Britannia standard came in because of the first and second name maker's mark of SB with a four legged animal above. It's not in Grimwade or Jackson's which is strange for such a distinctive mark. I wonder if the dog could be a rebus for Bar...
If you can find any Indian (and especially Delhi) street directories around 1940, it might be worth checking to see if there any names with the initials GK.
I'm trying to find out more about what looks like a continental European salt shovel marked with a thistle mark, 685 (probably the purity) and H. Bunce or Runce. I also have a table spoon marked only with the same thistle, but engraved Cl. Eggers 1878 which gives an approximate date for the shovel. ...
Hi Trev, I first thought it was an British engraving because of the garter collar. It has since been pointed out to me, by someone with much keener eyes, that above the jewel is a winged harp which means this is a collar for the order of St Patrick. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_St_Patrick S...
I thought the garter around the initials might help to narrow it down. As for the initials, I can't even distinguish them, which will make things tricky!
I'd very much appreciate some help with what I believe to be a British cipher on a late 18th century Swedish box. Miles http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h200/granmaa/box5b.jpg The original thread: http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=27841" onclick="window.open(this.href);return f...
I had a hunch it was Sweden, but wasn't sure. Are you sure it's the mark of Petter Gokblad? Do you know how long the version of the three crown mark was used? I ask because it doesn't seem like a 1842-63 piece, with its mercury gilding as an example.
Can anyone help me identify the marks on what I assume to be a Scandinavian box? Miles http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h200/granmaa/box5.jpg http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h200/granmaa/box5b.jpg http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h200/granmaa/box5h.jpg
