Ah! A picture just isn't the same thing. I want to see it on a piece of silver.

Re: Queens jubilee

There's now a Diamond Jubilee mark, which I'd like to see an example of.

I don't think I've ever seen a Glasgow import mark before. Very interesting.

Re: S D & Co. - Indian Trophy

Just a thought. It could be Australian, where they also used the sil shortening. There was a Stewart Dawson & Co trading in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane from 1885-1960 onwards. The mark illustarted in the book below is in a cartouche, but that's not to say they didn't have another. Also...

Re: Sterling Silver From China: Too Cheap To Be True?

On a tour through the London Assay Office last year, we were shown trays and trays of jewellery marked 925 and sterling. They said it was all silver plated, and thinly plated at that.

I'm almost completely ignorant when it comes to Scottish provincial, but since no-one's answered yet...could the I and V stand for Inverness?

Re: South American Reliquary ET

Hi silverly,

I should have put the size. It's about 15cm long and stands up on it's foot. It's much too heavy for a piece of jewellery. South American was just my best guess going by the decoration.

South American Reliquary ET

Does anyone recognise the maker's mark on this South American Reliquary which looks like ET with a sigma beneath. I imagine it's mid-19th century.

1781 Soup Ladle, JC/JG

A c.1781 soup ladle with chasing on the back of the bowl and on the stem. The maker's mark seems to be JC or JG, and I think it's probably Scandinavian. Can anyone confirm? It's possible that the city is that of Augsburg where I believe they made these coins. The buildings are quite similar. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Augsburg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://www.coinfactswiki.com/wiki/Imag...

Russian Silver Bowl, Older than 1861?

I have a chased silver bowl which is marked with Russian marks for 1861, but the way in which it is marked and the style of the decoration makes me think that it could be older and simply marked later for resale. Any thoughts? Miles http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h200/granmaa/y-1.jpg http://i64.p...
