Re: Please help identify silversmith on French perfume bottle

Hi,

In order to make the research easier, you should post pics of others marks. They would enable to define the region and the period of the object.

Silversmith for Alsace (?), 1798-1809

Hi, I would like to identify a silversmith, whose mark is "R" topped by something, in a lozenge. http://img15.hostingpics.net/thumbs/mini_231129IMG0638.jpg The region may be south of Alsace (Colmar ?) : mark figuring a man with "7" and "9" on the sides. Any help welcome !

Re: Silver jug most probably from Anvers - Silversmith

Thank you blackstone for your information !

You are right, I did not post the image of the warrior's head ; note that I do not see the the assay office letter on this head ("A" for Brussels), maybe it is erased.

Walter van Dievoet did a great work on Belgian silver.

Re: French maker

And I have just read on Roger Henri Duclos' birth certificate that he was son of an engraver. Maybe an engraver on metal ?
Funny to see how people stayed in close "social circles"...

Re: Mark on Wine Taster - Have No Idea As To Country

Hi, - On the first pic : a minerva, which also appear here because wine tasters were usually made in two separate parts, that were later welded ; - On the second pic : not a mark itself ; when the minerva mark was forged, one side of the silver piece showed a minerva, the other side showed this sort...

Re: Mark on Wine Taster - Have No Idea As To Country

Hi,

There should be two more marks, especially one more with a lozange shape which is the silversmith's mark.

Re: 18th century hallmarks on a letter opener/hook

Hi, Some comments : - the "P.C" mark is a silversmith mark, but does not look like the mark of a silversmith of Paris itself (two letters instead of the three letters which were common on parisian mak in 18e c.). It could be the mark for a silversmith of Paris region (Ile-de-France) - The ...

Re: Ladle 800 Makers Mark

Hi The rhombus-form mark looks like marks used in France for silversmith from 1798 to now. But : 1. The silversmith mark should be accompanied by two other marks : garantee hallmark and title hallmark See examples below : http://www.925-1000.com/Ffrench_marks.html 2. The "800" inscribed on...

Re: Continental Tablespoon Maker Identification

Hi,
It is probably a Russian object.
84 is the mark of purity of silver, and stands for 84 zolotniki (87,5%).
See for example :

Re: Unusual silver serving set mystery

Hi

The chalice mark seems very similar to the one showed on this thread :
viewtopic.php?f=24&p=133039&sid=c5c46301c6d12ccf4b09bd0422c78ef6#p133039

This would be the mark of J. D. Schleissner & Söhne, see the thread above for more information.

Regards.

Hi

According to me, it could be Dutch or Belgian hallmarks from about 1800-30, but I am not a real specialist of this sort of marks.

Greyhound on a Belgium fork - Bristish family ?

Hi, Here is a crest engraved on a silver fork from Brussels (Belgium), produced at the beginning of the 18th c. http://img4.hostingpics.net/thumbs/mini_154773Levrier01.jpg http://img4.hostingpics.net/pics/154773Levrier01.jpg It appears to me that this crest could be the one of a British family (desp...

Hi JayT, As a usual, I see you have got a good knowledge of French reference books on silversmith works. For this specific subject of snuffbox here is indeed the book you mentionned José de Los Llanos, Christiane Grégoire, Boîtes en or et objets de vertu au XVIIIe siècle, Paris : Paris Musées, 2011,...

Re: antique French oil&vinegar set - 1795?

Hi, In fact, if some books states that French Silversmiths' Association (Association des Orfévres) mark was used in 1795-1797, others books admit that the period when this marks was used is still unclear. You can see the mark on items produced during the "coq" period (1798-1819), and I thi...

Re: French Silver makers mark Help with ID Please

Hi If I am correct, the symbol (the "différent") of the father Sixte-Simon Rion was also a snake, a "vuivre" to be more precise. This is common for the son of a silversmith to take the same différent as his father ; the most famous example could be François Thomas Germain, with a...
