Re: French box

In order to be sure, it would be necessary to have the item in my hands (or at last a better pic of the box), but it seems to me that the sugar box is probably an Hanau production from the end of the 19e c.
The marks are (copy or original ?) : Paris, 1786 and Paris, 1809-19 2nd standard.

Re: Silver spoon - Unknown country

Many thanks for your help Krisztián and AG2012 !

After some cleaning, I see :
- on the left of the lion head : probably the letter "I" AG2012 is refering to.
- on the right of the lion head : maybe "4" ? What is the signification of this ?

Thanks !

Hi all, Here is a fork that carry Frenck mark (1809-19), but which may be a German (during Napoleonic occupation) or even a Belgian fork. The design of the fork itself is not common for a French item (see image). May someone confirm/precise the location, and identify the silversmith ? https://image....

Re: Help with reading these marks (footed covered dish)

Hi,

I am pretty sure that these marks are not French, even with one which is lozenge-shaped.
Personnally, I do not think it is British either, but I could not tell more.

Re: German Laddle ?

Hi Dendriet and Theoderich

Thanks for your help !
It seems indeed to be Mainz.
But is it normal that my "13" mark is different from yours Theoderich ?

Unfortunatly I did not notice any marker's mark.

Regards.

Re: Salt spoon 19th c. - Maker ?

Thanks a lot blackstone ! With your finding, it means that the item was made between 1838 and 1844. This is a precise information for an object marked with the minerva (1838-1872) ! I have not been able to find a record of Vautrin's death in either Paris As you may know, birth/wedding/death register...

Re: Amsterdam, 1809 - Silversmith ?

Thanks a lot Peter for providing so much information ! It is very interesting to put a name on an object. I am a bit surprised to see how many marks Bennewitz had during is career. I do not know if is not uncommon in The Netherlands, but in country like France the maker usually keep the same mark (e...

Re: Amsterdam, 1809 - Silversmith ?

Thanks oel for your comments.

Do you know this silversmith ?
And concerning the letter, I am not sure if it is a b or a g, which would change the year.

Finally, do you have a reference book to advise on this subject ?
Thanks.
