Presumably an import then and the British retailer had them hallmarked?

Antique silver buttons

These buttons I believe are London made about 1902 They are presumably cast, and are almost exactly 1" across the largest diameter. The close-up view seems to have a maker's mark of a simple capital F Please can someone name the maker and indicate his importance or otherwise! http://x11.putfile...

Thank you both for a quick and full answer

My wife being sharper than I am said it was a butter dish!

I suppose I should have thought of childhood days when I liked to be allowed to mke butter balls with wooden butter pats for special occasions, though I'm quite sure they appeared on the table on a china dish.

Who made this dish?

http://x11.putfile.com/3/8810052743.jpg It was probably made in 1897 a shallow repousee dish in the shape of a shell 12.5 x 10.5 cms. Has four ball (bun) feet and weighs about 2.25 ounces on the kitchen scales! The Hallmark to me reads solid silver, London, 1897. The makers initials appear to be GJ...
