Re: Help with Identification

Hi Juke - again: I.I. Ovtschinnikov is not Pavel Ovtschinnikov (Court supplier) or his sons Mikail, Alexander, Pavel and Nikolai. I.I. Ovtschinnikov stands for Iwan Iwanowitsch Ovtschinnikov. He is known for his rjumki. Ovtschinnikov is a common russian name. That it is a rjumka is my guess - I wrot...

Re: Who is assayer ГА in Moscow 1815?

Hi - 8 years are not enough..... If you would leave your books now and then and look around under Russian silver, you might notice that there are often poorly stamped objects. These are absolutely authentic! For the lack of individual marks, there is a simple explanation: fraud, avoiding fees, lazin...

Re: Who is assayer ГА in Moscow 1815?

Hi - as always: much smoke - but no fire! if a poster stops asking questions and begins to express a point of view, he then becomes an advocate for that viewpoint. When a person becomes an advocate, he has the burden of providing evidence for his point of view. If he has no evidence, or doesn't prov...

Re: Who is assayer ГА in Moscow 1815?

Hi - Hi. I want to tell that in Yashinkov's work there was no evil (commercial) intention. Only the negligent relation to the duties. Understand me correctly. He was the honored official. After dismissal from a position of the head of Assay Office, the Mining Department continued to pay for his meri...

Re: Who is assayer ГА in Moscow 1815?

Hi - you should reread the contibution from member "Dad" about A. Jaschinko and his habits...... Your sugar basket has no maker's mark because it is imported from who knows where, anyway, most likely Germany. Importware? Just pure ignorance of the facts. How comes that all you showed latel...

Re: Who is assayer ГА in Moscow 1815?

Hi - Inquiries without meaningful photos are pointless! It is not for nothing that explicit mention is made in the forum rules. Objects with assayer but without manufacturer are not uncommon - the best example is A. Jaschinkov, who has already attracted attention. https://abload.de/img/jaschinkova.0...

Re: Snuff / chewing tobacco container

Hi Aguest - you should have started a new topic... The Russian cigarette holders are all very small and characteristic. Wood, silver, niello, enamel, silver amber/ivory etc. Here some examples: https://abload.de/img/ivanova0sesq.jpg https://abload.de/img/komarovhhi3g.jpg https://abload.de/img/mundst...

Re: Snuff / chewing tobacco container

Hi SteveDWollongong - In my collection, these shoes with lids run as snuff / chewing tobacco containers. That fillgree containers are not suitable for snuff is even noticeable to laymen! But what laymen also usually do not know - Snuff is offered in different versions. For your better understanding ...

Hi juantotree - there was a long tradition of ashtrays and snuff/chewing tobacco in shoeform in Russia. Measurements between 6cm and 8 cm. In some European countries snuffing or chewing tobacco was very common! You could do it even in churches or theatres...

Hi - I am not a pronounced "podstakanniki" collector - only if I find very beautiful (enamel) or by well-known manufacturers, I attack! On my travels through Russia, I bought myself a small supply of glasses (some wonderfully engraved) - just in case that. Thanks for your offer! https://ab...

29th Moscow Artel

Hi - found a nice tea glass holder from the 29th Moscow Artel in pristine condition. Objects from this Artel are very rare because this Artel existed only from 1915-17 and only made sugar bowls and tea glass holders. https://abload.de/img/01jgfra.jpg https://abload.de/img/02rhdq8.jpg https://abload....
