Hello Abel,

Yes... hopefully someone will be able to help you with the maker - but at least you now know it's unlikely to be plate.

There seems to be two possibilities: Rogers & Whitehouse and Reynolds & Westwood. Alas, a Google search yields nothing for "Rogers & Whitehouse" and only only hit for "Reynolds & Westwood". Perhaps someone else has a reference book with more detailed information a...

Mustard spoon mystery - where was it made?

I recently bought this mustard spoon, which measures 8.7 cm. The name 'Sarah' is engraved on the handle, perhaps to prevent others from devouring her precious mustard. http://img1.putfile.com/thumb/3/6223214743.jpg http://img1.putfile.com/thumb/3/6223214740.jpg The spoon has some perplexing marks. h...

Hello Miles,

Thanks ever so much. I'll try your method and I will post the result of the restoration in this forum.

One last question though: do you recommend a particular glue?

Best wishes

Restoration of fruit knives

Here are some fruit knives made in Sheffield, 1921, by William Hutton & Sons Ltd. http://img1.putfile.com/thumb/2/5818400096.jpg As you can see, the knives are in need of restoration. I've been told they should be soaked so the shanks can be reset. They are, however, firmly attached to the handl...

Gosh, I think you’re probably right. The internet is flooded with pages stating that the E.V mark belongs to Edward, Emil, Emile or even Edwin Viner. I suspect it must be Emil/Emile — the name being unusual in the UK and unlikely to be conjured up arbitrarily. In contrast, most people probably assum...

Hello Nomad,

This seems to be a mustard pot. The blue insert prevents acids in the mustard to react with the silver. EPNS stands for Electro Plated Nickel Silver.

Hello Cocobiojou, I only have one book on silver marks; the one by Jan Divis. In it only two marks come anywhere close to your description, and they are both marks for Norden, Germany, used in the 18th and 19th centuries. However, the stars are not arranged like you describe. Nor does any of the Rus...

Hello, Your piece is indeed Danish silverplate. If it was sterling, three towers would be used. The two-tower mark for plate was in use from the late 1800s to about 1930. Your piece probably dates from the 1910s or '20s. The 'P' also means silverplate; for the Danish term 'pletsølv' (lit. platesilv...
