My image host, Putfile, is acting up these days and the photos of the mustard pot have mysteriously disappeared. Anyway, here they are again, thanks to a different image host. Please excuse the grainy quality of the marks. (BTW, I no longer believe the glass insert is original - it seems much too ta...

Halbmond and the 750 standard?

Hello forum, I have these dinner forks made by Wilkens in the 19th Century. They pussle me by being marked with the 750 silver standard and the crescent moon. Granted, there is no crown, so it's probably not a sensational case of the 750 standard being used after 1884 - but why would the Halbmond be...

Below is a picture of the "Y & T" mark from a 7" ladle in my collection. An internet search will yield other items from this maker, and it may yet be possible to shed new light on this maker. I would certainly like to know more. Best wishes Mikael http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/2/3...

The panels may illustrate a story from the legend of Viking hero Ragnar Lothbrok / Lodbrok ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ragnar_Lodbrok" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ). Of course, one would have to see all the panels to verfify this. In the story (which is not described on the Wiki...

Hello Chuck, As you probably know, it is customary for reigning monarchs to add the Latin “Rex” after their name. Because of the crown, it would be tempting to assume that the “H.R.” monogram on your spoon refers to the monarch at the time. However, all the Danish kings since 1513 were either called...

Hello Bahner, and thanks for the input. Very useful. I think I'll try to locate a reference book on Czech and Hungarian silversmiths if any such exists. (That should also help with the four ladles listed in a separate post.)

Hello Salmoned, and thank you for the input. I'm certain it says 'BU' - I've investigated the mark from all angles under the microscope and it's actually a rather well-struck 'B' - it's just not easy to capture well with my camera... Also, I've come across another forum, where the same maker/mark wa...

FB = Franz Bibus?

Hello Forum, Well I thought these would prove difficult! It has been suggested that 'FB' stands for the Czech maker Franz Bibus. If anyone happens to know anything about this maker, I would very much like to know. Meanwhile, 'BU' is a tricky one - there is no maker with those initials listed in any ...

Ha! But I should perhaps say that this discussion has been a little artificial on my part and that I've played the devil's advocate - at least to some degree. A Russian knife. Who can help with markings?

Hello Forum, this butter knife measures 10 5/8", has a silver handle and what I think is a carbon steel blade: http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/1/1313495422.jpg The blade has an impressive-looking mark, but I don't know what it says: http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/1/1313495486.jpg The handle has tw...
