Re: Birmingham hallmark, but reversed Victoria duty stamp

Hi,

I think you will find that that mark is the optional coronation mark for Queen Elizabeth II. Difficult to make out the date mark as your images aree out of focus.

Forget it everyone, I think it's a sheffield plate mark for John Gilbert.

Candle trimmer origins

Hi

I am sure I have seen these marks before, probably on this site, but I can't for the life of me recall what they are. Can anybody put me out of my misery?

Many Thanks
Martin

lol it's true and obnoxious. Thanks to the overwhelming quantity of fakes on that "popular internet auction website" I never buy any antiques that ship from China, Malaysia, India, Indonesia, Hungary, Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus. Poland and some other eastern European countries are also ...

Re: What was this ladle used for?

Hi AG2012

Thank you for the observation, it is not something I am familiar with. Other than pattens, chalices and pyx boxes, I have not handled any other ecclesiastical silver.

What was this ladle used for?

Hi I have this unusual small ladle, it has a tiny bowl, smaller than most salt spoons and a long handle (14cms), The cross engraved to the terminal might suggest some religious use, it has Dublin hallmarks, does anybody know its purpose? Many Thanks Martin https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg http...

Hi

Maybe the flask was originally gilded and what you are seeing is the remanants of that gilding, just a possibility.

Hi

To me the remains of the lion passant mark looks like a pre 1679 example, with the mark next to the green arrow that of a worn date mark.

Re: Punch Ladle

Hi

The coin is a shilling, this type of ladle was popular throughout the 18th century, at a guess anywhere from the date of the coin to around 1750.

Hi Ben

Can't help with the marks I'm afraid, but the item is an unusual shape, almost as if its been formed from a saucer or small plate.

Re: London maker on Indian style bowl?

Without being able to see all the images, I would hazard a guess this is a zodiac bowl featuring stylised images of the 12 signs of the zodiac. Does the bowl have 12 images around the circumference?
