Re: Sheffield Silver spoon

Kind of self-evident..Electroplated nickel silver (EPNS) made in Sheffield England by or for COX (?). Looks like a ladle for a gravy boat that has gone elsewhere. Might be for commercial service supply but the name does not appear to be American related. There's a lot of stuff tuning up in the home ...

Re: Trying to figure out hallmarks on a silver tankard

Presumably you have already looked at the Sheffield Assay marks, and this looks too crude, raising suspicions of modern fakery. A lot of stuff is popping out of India, some plain and some very nice. The handle looks similar to these and rather heavy, suggesting a base metal with plating. Sterling is...

This may not help, but, have you started with Levitt & Gold of New York c.1915 (later known as Levitt & Co.) This could be different from their known mark.

Re: Help to ID PT 905 Mark on Hammered Silver Teapot

Some trophy companies had similar marks...might search that route. Also, that style of "g" monograph may relate to the Greenbrier Hotel in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia..another possible avenue of research.

Re: Silver Tray with Four Marks

The bottom part is definitely Sheridan. As to the C S W, I can't read the S. Before it became Sheridan, the company started as C & C. Perhaps there was a short-lived C & W era.

Re: Silver spoons help with marks please

For the benefit of those learning, let's clarify that the "90" is a Euro-method for establishing the quantity of silver used in plating of a gross or group of these items. It does not mean .900, Coin Silver, or the 900 used to represent steel base metal. This can be very confusing to peopl...

Re: Help with silver bowl .1000 mark

That close-up (photo 2) looks more like pewter or armitale than silver plate. Are we seeing copper base metal showing through on the other shots or is this a lighting effect.

Re: Hallmarks on Semi-Ornate Silver Plated Ice Bucket

The mark on the right, which I believe is three feathers, is associated with the Prince of Wales. Like the fleur de lis, it has often been co-opted for use by manufacturers. International Silver Company used it alone, while E. G. Webster & Son of Brooklyn placed it on the left side of their thre...

Re: Reed & Barton Pitcher

Reed & Barton did use pictorial symbols for date coding over a 30 year period on hollowares but this bird does not match their known ones. Perhaps it was related to a supplier or end user (looks to be stamped lighter and worn). The 3600 identifies the type of item, but it was probably manufactur...

Re: Japan International (WT in a circle) tongs?

The earlier mention of Kady Industries should read Katy. Wallace was sold (1959) to Hamilton Watch Company, went into (1971) H.M.W. Industries, and wound up (1983) in Katy Industries. Not sure if this was owner of Missouri, Kansas, & Texas Railroad (Katy for short) which was diversifying their i...

Re: Japan International (WT in a circle) tongs?

World Tableware International, Inc. was registered as a foreign (out of state) entity in California on 02 Aug 1972 for the purpose of importing flatware. This was clearly a wholly owned subsidiary and not a division. (Early marks need to be explored) It is not clear if domestic stainless production ...
