Sure. "from Mr. Potatoehead to Mrs. Potatohead" Trev--have you been listening to that '60's pop song "Matchstick Men"? Good to know there's more than 1 crazy person on this site!

Re: Garrards Georgian sterling chamberstick - date?

1lb.--Holy Cow!! Got a c. 1900 tray 2 years back topped out 'round 14 troy. Curious...is the weight in this concentrated in handle and hood for durability, or in base for stability? As to the girl...do you think comb in hair and holding tambourine ( implying Spanish Familial roots?) or rolled hair w...

Re: TRP silver? mark

First, from what I see, I would not discount "JRP" as the letters. Second, while the crimps in the metal make it all look soft like Sterling, this is not conclusive. Third, if it is in fact platework, the topmarked initials could be for commercial useage such as a "H"otel. Fourth...

Re: Help Identifying Cuff Bracelet Taxco 980

Not convinced that is a 980 grade mark. (Notice this is incuse [stamped] rather than intaglio [raised]. The "Sterling" mark (often post-1950ish) renders the need for a number grade unneccessary as this is an increasingly internationally accepted grade of .925. This could be a set of initia...

Does the outer ring appear to read "Taxco Mexico" over "925"? What is inside, "22A"?

Re: Superior Dutch Silver Horse Head Hallmark

Until there is a definite answer, you might look at International Silver which absorbed Wilcox which absorbed Superior. ("Dutch silver " would apply to pewter as "German silver " would represent nickel-silver, a base metal with no actual silver.) Wilcox did make pewter and perhap...

Turner Designer Reed & Barton

Is there any available information on George L. Turner who is credited with several Reed & Barton silverplate designs including the 1937 Socialite Pattern? Anyone know how he came to develop this pattern?

So nickel-silver base? Would the word Alpacca be applied for domestic use items in Germany? Nice wild sheep things, told you I was barking up the wrong llama..its not even a cousin.

Re: Antique 925 silver british hallmark on a ring...Looks familiar? Help please...

Might need to flip the ring and re-shoot the mark from the other side paying careful attention to light sources and differing angles ( high vs. low). Small stamps can be tough to capture and equally tough to read if they don't blow up well. good Luck.

Just to be clear, are we talking real dead animal here or crafted of another material. If so, good luck finding a horse or whatever willing to "lend you a hand" in restoring this!

Trevs having a little fun educating you. Its called a makers mark if that. A "hallmark" is a very specific type of mark that is well regulated. Hope you get an answer, but keep reading 'cause these people on this site will school you in everything metals.

Two things learned at once. Thank God Trev was forgiving as the rules I read allow administrators to simply delete any plate queries "deposited" into the hard metals sections. No ifs, ands, or buts. Danke!

Re: Unknown CFH Alpacca Mark. Date?

Never automatically trust the box. People switch this stuff regularly these days. It would seem to be a set intended for export from a Solingen maker to a country where Alpacca is a common mark for plated wares. (Silverplate is not "fake" as it does involve a coating of true silver) I woul...

Re: Need help IDing this maker.

It would be called a covered serving dish (lay terms). Hot or cold food would be put in a liner, probably glass, and inserted in the base with the ring over it to hold the lid. And Trev, thanks for the great links.

Re: Help identifying makers mark DG on this sterling tray

May be way off the mark here, but the interconnected "U" only design makes me think of the old pre-1946 American firm of Underwood & Underwood, makers of stereographic image related items. Don't feel comfortable enough with the DG mark to speculate on the origin of this though. Someone...

Re: Mystery Spoon - 1869 - AF - Lady Wings Motif

Whoa, I'm lost. I don't see flowing hair. I see a dancer, possibly even male, with a swirling ribbon, clothed beneath the waist in tights and maybe soft ballet type shoes. Over the head are Mickey Mouse Ear-like dark circles that remind of a Spanish hat worn by matadors. So how have we concluded Ger...

Re: Help identify Demitasse spoon & Claw tong please

The mark you show looks "like" a Dominick & Haff, but the center should be an open circle. (Do all the pieces look like this one?). The box on the left would normaly read 925 and the diamond would have four numbers for the year. Reed and Barton took over their interests in 1928. Someon...
