John Turton & Co. Rose engraving on spoons

Hi all This set of teaspoons and sugar tongs are by John Turton & Co, Sheffield 1907. Having read the interesting post by "dognose" (2005) regarding JT&Co and their colourful history I may be confused as to the timeline. Dognose argues that John Turton & Co continued using this...

S.T.S Unknown Maker. Cream Jug, 1902

Hi all Here is a small, nicely proportioned cream jug. It is 7.5 cms high and weighs 78.5 gms. It is marked Birmingham for 1902. However the maker is eluding me. I can find no reference in the usual sources; even Mr. Google was not helpful. Any assistance identifying S.T.S would be appreciated. P.S:...

Duncan & Scobbie: who were they?

Hi all I have an incomplete set of 4 tea/coffee spoons. They are marked Duncan & Scobbie, Glasgow, 1947. I know Duncan & Scobbie registered their mark in 1906 and worked at 81 St Vincent Street, Glasgow. There were manufacturing from 1909 to 1934. They were flatware manufactures. However I a...

Re: Beaker, Paris 1768-1775? Maker PNN

Hi JayT

Thank you for the very comprehensive information, I appreciate it. I can now see the PNN with rifle and the date letter. Right under my nose. I will look out for this over-stamping technique when out and about as this mark appeared to me as one.

Many thanks.

Beaker, Paris 1768-1775? Maker PNN

Hi First of all let me say how much I enjoy this site. I have spent a number of hours reading and always learning something new. I have identified this beaker as being French, Paris 1768-1775. The beaker has two marks on the base and one on the outside near the rim. It also has some incised marks wh...

Re: Unknown Makers Mark - Solid silver engraved thimble, Birmingham, 1894 or 1887

Hi Jan My first impression of the thimble is that the punch marks are not very crisp. I was thinking it could be that they have been rubbed away or the punch was not very effective or used by someone with not enough experience. We can definitely distinguish the Lion and Anchor so know therefore that...

Re: Any idea on the maker BJLd?

The piece was made in 1964 in London which you have probably found out already. I have searched through my reference books but am no closer to finding out who the maker was. The use of L with a small D is unuall so it should not be that difficult to track down. Is the cat 3D or engraved on the base ...

Re: Wang Hing small coin dish. Who is designer and what is the coin?

Many thanks for taking the time to respond. It is both useful and interesting information for me to continue the research. When I purchased this dish it also came with a similar one but these have chinese markings only and a different coin. The idea that this object was fasioned this way for the sol...

Wang Hing small coin dish. (Updated)

Many thanks for taking the time to respond to my post. I have taking the action you suggested and cleaned the mark to make it more visible. I have also sorted out the image problem. I now know that the third symbol is known as a chop mark and not what I thought would be the designer. http://www.925-...

Wang Hing small coin dish. Who is designer and what is the coin?

Dear Forum This is my first post so apologies if I have not got it quite right. I am confident that I have identified the marks as that of the Wang Hing & Co using the resources on this site - many thanks. Although the example given for Wang Hing & Co shows maker, designer and what appears t...
