Re: Vogler 13 Loth teaspoon

Not German, but from the German-speaking region of Switzerland. The maker is Johann Caspar Vogler (1806-1891) of Frauenfeld, canton Thurgau. Hope this helps! Ref: Water R. C. Abegglen & Betty Sonnberger, Glanzstücke: Gold- und Silberschmiedeunst aus Thurgauer Werkstätten (Frauenfeld: Verlag H...

RH silversmith

I have recently chanced across a pair of these interesting tea spoons. They are marked RH only. I have put them in the Scottish forum because the pointed terminal reminded me of a scottish silver teaspoon I have. But I don't really know I have took a photo of the slightly faceted drop because its a ...

Vogler 13 Loth teaspoon

Does anyone have any information or interesting comments about this tea spoon. I think it is marked Vogler and is 13 loth, so my guess is that it's 19th century German. http://i1335.photobucket.com/albums/w661/Mehdig/cd55e91e-d379-4d9c-b307-c9c31cd71c1c_zps643ddab2.jpg http://i1335.photobucket.com/a...

Rothweiler or P.Othweiler Spoon ?

I have recently chanced upon 5 of these tea spoons. They are marked either Rothweiler or P.Othweiler. They are 13 loth. I have searched the internet and there does not seem to be any reference to this maker, even on this site. I attach 2 photos, one of the spoon and one of the makers mark. Does anyo...

It looks like it might be Chester 1906 and the maker might be Friedlander & Co (Montague Friedlander). They were based in Royal Exchange Square, Glasgow. Thank you, Mg

Hello
I think that the date is 1948.
The third number is 4 and is different to the second number which is 9.
There are two ways of writing the arabic number 4; this is one way and the other way is like a 3 written back to front.
thank you

Hello, It is 900 silver and assayed in Alexandria. I think the other assay cities are Beni Suef, Cairo and Tanta. The cat mark was replaced by the lotus flower in 1946; so this is after that date. According to this site, arabic date letters were used after 1940. Unfortunately, I've never seen a char...

Rare Iraqi Silver Mark

I have a number of Iraqi nielloed silver items items but I have never known any of them to have any hallmarks. This piece; a cigarette box with a wooden lining is an exception and has a hallmark as shown in the pictures. There are 3 parts to the mark, like on egyptian silver. The first one on the le...

Hello. The three symbols are as follows; On the left, as you say are the arabic numerals for 800 which means that the metal used on the item is 80% pure silver. Above the 800, there is arabic script which indicates that it was assayed in Alexandria. The symbol in the middle is a lotus flower and ser...

Pierced, wood lined container

I would be very grateful if anyone could help me to identify what this object might have been intended for and what the markings might indicate. The wooden liner is interesting. At first I thought it was perhaps a substitute for perhaps a glass liner which may have been broken. However, it is actual...

Please could anyone tell me what this is?

I have this object which is hallmarked for Chester, 1911 and is made by Sampson Mordan & Co Ltd. My Dad and me have been wondering what it might have been used for and I would be very grateful if anyone could tell us. It is about 2 and a half inches across. http://b.imagehost.org/t/0963/sm1.jpg ...

This looks like a style of Islamic calligraphic writing called Nastaliq. It is used for writing Persian, Urdu and Pashto. In Pakistan, almost everything in Urdu is written in this script. The greatest concentration of Nastaliq usage in the world is therefore Pakistan and my guess would be that the b...
