Russian or German

Good evening I am trying to figure out if this could be Russian hallmarks on this cigarette case I want to buy. It bares the German 800 mark but other marks don't look German. Could it be German marks on a case imported from Russia? This is the only available pictures. Groete Jannie https://i.postim...

Re: Pierced sugar bowl

I agree that it is a sugar bowl, or a sweetmeat bowl, and needs a glass liner. It's definitely a Hayne & Cater mark and the date letter is the G of 1842/43. Phil Thank you for your quick reply. I am thinking of getting a liner made by a local potter in town. Think it will be nice to put a littl...

Pierced sugar bowl

Good day I have bought this object a while back. I think it is a sugar bowl missing a lining. It is 8cm in diameter and about 6cm heigh. I think it is marked SH DC for Samuel Hayne & Dudley Cater. It is not easy to see the date letter as it is cut off. I bares the Victoria head mark and one of t...

Re: Kings Pattern teaspoon 1837

I searched the topic a bit more and found this article: http://www.ascasonline.org/windowMAGGI107.html "This mark could be narrowed down to have been applied to the spoon between 29 May and 20 June 1837 - a mere 23 days. The last day of the year marking for the William lV era 1836-1837 was 28 ...

Kings Pattern teaspoon 1837

Good evening I have obtained a Kings Pattern spoon today. It bares the date stamp for 1837 and the kings head. I am not sure who made it. The makers mark looks like WE . There are another mark that looks like a 1/4 , not sure what it is. Did they use the kings head till June and after that change it...

Indian tin

Good evening I have bought this tin this weekend. I does seem to be a solid silver snuff box from Asian origin. The picture on lid seems to be an Asian Elephant and a lion. I can't seem to find any hallmarks. Any more information would be welcome . Groete Jannie https://i.postimg.cc/xjWCKnRK/IMG-201...

The date is 1905. It is the Greek letter 'Chi', the Walker & Hall date cycle 1884-1911 uses the Greek alphabet.

Trev.

Thank you for helping me with the date. Now I will try the crest. It is a CN with 2 dragons next to it.

They only use the spoon as an example and don't show hallmarks. It is on page 26 of Simon Moore, SPOONS 1650-1930. Will take pic of it now.

mk209 wrote:No it doesn’t date to that period, yes you are right about the style and period but this spoon is a little surprising hence the quiz.

That is interesting. So your spoon must be a copy/fake of the one in the book? It has the exact pattern and engraving.

Good day

My book say it is a bright-cut decorated Old English spoon from 1770-1780.

any idea what the bust and other mark can represent? Surely they are not just made up to look British?
