Re: TG Makers Mark + What type of spoon is this?

Hi I believe closer examination of the 5th mark will show it to be an uncrowned leopards head of the London Assay Office and not the anchor of Birmingham as all other hallmarks point to this. T G is the sponsor mark of the London importer, Thomas Glaser. His mark was registered in Jul 1886 at the Lo...

Re: How do I post photos

Sorry Catherine, afraid there's nothing in the marks to indicate age. As you will have already read, the company was in business between 1901 and 1985. The design of the toast rack has an Art Deco influence but I suspect that timewise, it may be a little later than the 1930's . My best guess is 1930...

Re: How do I post photos

Hello Catherine, The marks you are having difficulty reading are written in a Gothic text and are EPNS for electro plated nickel silver, meaning your toast rack is silver plated. They are parts of the maker mark of Viners Limited of Sheffield ( V. LD for Viners Limited). Please see Viners here: http...

Re: ??? Indian Silver - mark on piece 7 times

I suspect Egypt rather than Iraq...definately "800" and it looks like "Cairo" as the assay city to me. Wait and see what AG2012 has to say as he is better at Egyptian silver than me.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: Unidentified 1781 spoon/ladle

Hello James and welcome to the Forum, Your blurred photos of the hallmarks makes it near impossible to be certain but from what I can see, I think your interpretation of the hallmarks is correct. I suspect the makers mark may be GS for George Smith III but a quality close up is required. Try taking ...

Re: Mark on cigar cutter - Austrian?

Hi Krisztián,

You are absolutely correct, it could also be Hungary. Hopefully Patagere can confirm whether there is a town letter and if so, what it is,which will also be a step in the right direction in possibly identifying the maker.

cheers,
Steve

Hi,

Your spoons were made in Newcastle and not London. The maker is Alexander Kelty and the year 1805.

Hi Alfonso and welcome to the Forum,

You are correct with Germany. The marks are two of the many maker marks of the Neresheimer company of Hanau. Please see mark numbers;

Hi Denis, What I know about Swedish silver will fit on the back of a postage stamp but a little research has provided the following: The town assay mark of Skara confirming your reading of the three crown ( sometimes referred to as the cats paw) official mark of Sweden. The makers mark is interestin...

Re: sampson mordan?

Definitely not Sampson Mordan. If you look closely at the second letter it is missing the top serifs of the letter M. I'm convinced it is the letter W... meaning the mark is WS.

It looks like a good match for William Schofield to me and 1828 is within his time. See what others think.

Hi John, Sometime in the window of time between 1905 and 1931. The earlier info shows circa 1930 but on further investigation everything I have read states 1931 as being the year when the Durgin Concord New Hampshire factory was closed and production moved to the Gorham factory on Rhode Island. Re: Pair large 8 1/2"spoons in box what was their use.

Hi Guido, The crest on the spoons is that of King Edward VII. Your serving spoons were made in 1901(as you pointed out) which is the year his mother, Queen Victoria died, and he ascended the throne. I believe they were made as commemorate items of this royal event and would have been sold to both to...

Re: date seems confusing

I agree the maker is Henry Matthews and the date letter is the italic letter v for 1895. I know it looks a lot like the letter b but if you compare with the example on Phils site below you will see that its a match. After bringing up the page, click on the column containing 1895 and then on the indi...

Hello Chris, I'm only able to view one image, the others are showing a Photobucket error message. The image I can see shows the letter W in a circle with a left facing lion. This is the mark of the Whiting Manufacturing Company of New York. Please see: http://www.925-1000.com/americansilver_W4.html ...
