French Spoon Circa 1800?

I guess the initials on the hallmark are D and G and it looks like a star above and some other symbol below?

Also there is a period at the end of the hallmark, in case that helps.

Re: Silver pepper pots made by Henry William Curry

I see a resemblance between these figures and the figures on ancient roman coins 200-400 AD, it's something about the posture of the figures. The Owl, of course, is a famous image on ancient greek coins. The angel image is very similar to certain ancient roman coins that I have seen. I see the argum...

Re: Another Apostle Spoon Mystery

Yes I also thought it was an antique reproduction of an older apostle spoon form. The strange things are the lack of hallmarks and the two raised dot design at the bowl and the base of the apostle. I suppose the lack of hallmarks is very uncommon but not unheard of. Thanks for all your help. I will ...

Re: Another Apostle Spoon Mystery

The spoon has the short, sharp joining piece where the stem meets the bowl which Agphile mentions as indicative of older 17th century spoons.
I wish I could find a hallmark on this spoon, but I cannot see any mark whatsoever

Re: Another Apostle Spoon Mystery

When it was tested using the acid test, the result was closer to .800 rather than .925
So this indicates a European Continent place of origin such as German or Dutch?

No marks on this one whatsoever, not even the tiny dots of a worn hallmark.

Its a mystery to be sure.

Re: Apostle Spoon Simon Zet

Update: I found the exact spoons in the ASCASonline newsletter for June #38.

I still haven't found the answer but the other extremely similar (identical almost) apostle spoons are marked "N" and "GS" (both in a circle).

I guess the "GS" has been rubbed off.
