Re: Is this spoon English?

I’ve not seen this pattern before it’s an interesting spoon for sure. The family crest would indicate it was owned by a family in UK/Ireland but hopefully somebody much more knowledgeable will help further. The position of the makers mark is unusual for a UK spoon too but then anything is possible. ...

Re: AD on a fiddle dessert spoon.

As nobody seems to know there’s a few things about the spoon that could offer some clues. Firstly the engraved crest, you can find out a family name, it may offer some hints as to location (possibly colonial?). Secondly the style of the spoon, the back of the spoon bowl (the heel) varies a lot to da...

Who’s mark is underneath George Ferris’ mark?

The mark GF has been noted on London assayed spoons 1798 to 1819 (Silvermakersmarks.co.uk) but now here’s a spoon that could give a few answers. Hallmarked for 1783 but overstruck with a GF mark (George Ferris?) the engraving shows a date of 1815 so did GF adorn this spoon in 1815 and overstruck his...

Silver ladle dated 1822 maker help?

Not often I find older pieces in flea markets here in up in the far north of Finland but found this today for a very good price. If anyone can help me with the maker and where it’s from? Marked: WA 12loth 1822. Not sure if it was later converted with holes and gilded as a strainer or is original? ht...

Re: Provincial dognose spoon?

I did wonder about the struck marks, they looked like marks within marks. I fear you are right though, I will examine the marks more closely.

Many thanks for the input and the eagled-eyed observation, even if it’s bad news it’s still good to find out.

Re: German spoon?

Many thanks but my spoon is dated 1863 and you mentioned that he died in 1824? Not sure if the date was wrong for the working period?

@Qrt.S - my post is here in the German section as I thought only Germany allowed 10 loth.

Re: Can anyone identify this mark please

Interesting, I have a spoon marked in the same way but no idea where it comes from yet? Mine is 10loth and dated 1863 by maker IFS. I will watch this post with interest!

Provincial dognose spoon?

I’m sure I’ve seen this mark before but not having any books or resources here I cannot look. It looks like WP in script followed by two other marks. The kind Victorians have put their mark on this spoon but it’s still an interesting one. Any help would be great to identify and give an approximate d...

Re: Richard Plint of Truro spoon?

Thanks Trev. It seems the majority of Richards work is around 1700 that you can find online that has been sold. This looks typical of c1710 onwards and is marked 3 times whereas most others are marked twice.

That’s interesting thanks Trev, it appears he had quite a long career but doesn’t seem to be much of his work surviving.

Richard Plint of Truro spoon?

I can’t find much about Richard Plint but here is a nice ratail spoon which I believe is by him. It is marked marked 3 times RP and matches the marks in Jacksons. 2 of the other marks are worn but feintly readable as RP. Has anyone more information about him? I’ve seen very few spoons by him and onl...

French dessert spoon?

On the basis of another spoon in a similiar style is this French? The marks are hard to make out but looks like MS with a star underneath and another possible purity or town mark? https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg Thanks, Matt

Re: Dutch? French? Spoon

Many thanks Peter for the information, it’s a bit worn on the tip but a nice spoon to have as the crowned family crest is good and maybe I can identify the family it belonged to.

German spoon?

I think this is German? It’s marked IFS 10L (10 loth) and dated 1863. It has a scallop top and pin pricked initials KOJ on the front. As usual any help would be great.

Recently got this tea caddy spoon with fake marks, they look like a dragon, fake letter Q for 1771, fake sterling lion and W overstruck.

Re: Napoleon Bonaparte’s spoon?

Thanks for the input, I also noticed that the crest was incomplete. As most of these auctions with items that are ambiguous no concrete claim is made but the wording is as close to a claim as is possible without actually implying it. It’s always interesting to get thoughts from people more experienc...
