Re: Silver spoons- Georgian?-Sterling- J.A.C. hallmarks

I’ve seen the same psuedo marks with the lion and sideways ‘C’ with ‘John A Cole’ stamped so it’s a safe bet that’s the maker.

He was working in New York circa 1840-50’s

Re: Help with ID - Dundee Hallmark?

It’s clear the marks have been overstamped like that to confuse and hide. Possibility of the ’dundee’ mark is James Mills, the ‘E’ looks a little like Edwin Millidge, Edinburgh (similar period). There also looks like a ‘WT’ punch has also been used? Hard to get to the bottom of, needs a few hours wi...

What started your interest?

Mine was finding this silver egg spoon with a metal detector at aged 10 (quite a few decades have since passed!) which I still have in all it’s found dented, scratched condition. J and S savory 1853. It wasn’t for many years did I think I want more silver then it has spiralled out of control into th...

His marks did incorporate those flourishes or sprays but not seen that particular shaped punch before. Here’s another marrow scoop of his:

Evans C.Beard with Eagle, rough date?

Does anyone know a rough date for this spoon with the addition of an Eagle mark? I’ve found spoons with his mark but not with the Eagle listed online. It’s a larger teaspoon weighing 21 grams, a really nice spoon. https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg Thanks, ...

Re: .......Brown? T.Brown? Teaspoon

That’s great! Thankyou both. I don’t get many American spoons so it’s nice to find them here. I also found an Evans C. Beard spoon from Kentucky so the 2 were a great addition to my collection.

Re: Who is JB? Teaspoons

These certainly will be not over polished the bright cutting is really something, the effect when they hit the light at different angles is stunning. For me it’s interesting as I’m making spoons now so I’m studying the art of brightwork this pattern of cutting produces such an unusual result.

Re: Who is JB? Teaspoons

That’s superb thankyou! I don’t tend to find much French silver, it’s a shame as I love the 950 standard items they always look so good when clean.

.......Brown? T.Brown? Teaspoon

I have this American teaspoon I think possibly reads T.Brown. and a word that is unreadable in a second punch possibly ‘coin’? Any help to identify would be great.

Re: Another quiz.......guess the hallmarked date

Ok you were all guessing the wrong direction, it’s actually the earliest known bright-cut spoon...... https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg ........well, not really but ok it was made by R.H (unknown) in 1756 but as to why the time was taken to change the spoo...

@Buckler wrong :-)

Wow that is either my spoon or one from the set! So interested to know the maker and date then it would answer a question about my particular spoon.

I would be interested to see a picture if it is exactly the same and know the maker and date. It will explain a little about my spoon.

No it doesn’t date to that period, yes you are right about the style and period but this spoon is a little surprising hence the quiz.

Same worn punchmark on an 1817 spoon, can now only assume this ladle to have been made by William Nixon.
