Re: A swagger stick

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Both of the hallmarks are London sterling silver marks with the date letter "n" for the assay year 1908/09. EHW is Edwin Henry Watts and the other mark, WS..o, may be Wilkinson Sword Co, but without a complete mark I cannot be certain.

Re: Thomas Pitts OR Thomas Powell???

Certainly 1789 "o" and 1809 "O" are practically indistinguishable. I dated your epergne as 1809 because there is no convincing T·P candidate mark for 1789.

W·B is William Bennett, this mark registered 1808. W·G·W is a later mark of no significance added by an owner.

Re: Thomas Pitts OR Thomas Powell???

Grimwade (London Goldsmiths 1697-1837, Their Marks & Lives) identifies a T·P mark registered c1758 as Thomas Pitts I, with the note "Previously called Thos. Powell". This mark is not any of the surviving registers so was probably in the lost 1739-1758 Smallworkers' Register or the 1758...

Re: Re Joseph Ash1 working life?

Ash registered marks not just in 1801 but also in 1810 and 1818. I have noted his mark up to 1817, so we can definitely assume a working period to 1818 and beyond. But to expand on your remark about a potential 4 year working life: this is not quite as unusual as it might seem and there are several ...

The marks look OK to me, Aleks: London 1919 with the maker's mark of Henry Perkins & Sons.

I can indeed see why you thought it was a C. It just goes to show that references cannot always be relied on. I have illustrated that cycle at https://www.silvermakersmarks.co.uk/Dat ... -1922.html

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I agree with your reading of the hallmark. No doubt you have also identified the maker's mark as that of Francis Higgins II.

Re: Watch 925 Marks - please can you get me started

Hi and welcome to the forum This is a London import mark with the date letter "c" for 1918/19. It does not show where the watch case was made - probably it has the same origin as the movement. 7163 is a number specific to the watch. I agree that the scratch marks are likely to be service d...

Re: Elkington Skewer, What is the crest like terminal?

I think it's the crest of an institution of fairly long standing as I have now seen an identical crest, also on a silver skewer, dated 1850.

Re: Silver sporran cantle

It's definitely a Glasgow hallmark but your picture is far too blurred to make out any details. Please try again with your picture. It is most important to get the marks in focus; try waiting until you can take the picture in daylight and don't try to get too close - a smaller in-focus picture is mu...

Re: Demitasse Spoon Hallmark Help Needed

JW&Co is Josiah Williams & Co, a Bristol company with a long history. The lion passant is the hallmarked guarantee of sterling silver and the other 2 marks are the (somewhat rubbed) uncrowned leopard's head for London and the date letter H for the assay year 1943/44.

Re: Am I reading this Sheffield mark correctly?

1896 is correct - to be strictly accurate it's 1896/97 as the assay year did not start in January - for Sheffield the date letter changed on the first Monday in July. AC is Alexander Clark.
