Re: Aaron Harrop Cutlers Sheffield

Aaron Harrop & Sons are listed as table knife manufacturers in Sheffield trades directories at 161 Rockingham Street in 1881; and at 61 Norfolk Street in 1907 & 1911.

Re: Please help identify the marks on my Claddagh ring

Sorry I should have said London, not Birmingham, but the date letters are the same.

Re: Please help identify the marks on my Claddagh ring

Your ring is not very old. It has a Birmingham hallmark; I can't make out the date letter exactly but it appears to be either "b" for 2001 or "h" for 2007. I don't know the maker (indeed I'm not even sure exactly what initials are).

Re: please help me identify this peace

As with most electroplate it is very difficult to be at all accurate with dates. My suggestion would be early 20th century.

Re: please help me identify this peace

This mark is tentatively attributed to Joseph Mappin by the silvercollection.it web site. Whether it is or not the mark has the appearance of being an electroplate mark - it is certainly not a British hallmark for solid silver. It would be difficult to be much more specific than late 19th century fo...

Re: please help me identify the date

You should inspect the letter carefully to check whether it's upper case P for 1939 or lower case p for 1914. It's very difficult to tell them apart and your picture is not conclusive. I favour 1914 on the basis of the form of the maker's mark. WN over LTD without stop was registered earlier than W....

Samuel Evans / Samuel Evans & Sons of Birmingham. See the extremely useful silvercollection.it site.

Re: please help me identify this peace

It's plated. The mark before the plume of feathers comprises the letters "EP" (electroplate).

Re: Help - I'm new and have a question about a piece

The marks on the handle don't show up clearly enough to see properly. Can you get a closer picture? The mark on the fork tine is a bit blurred but appears to be Martin, Hall's standard RM over EH in a lozenge. The R may have become distorted in the finishing process. I can think of a couple of reaso...

The hallmark is Birmingham 1890 (I think the date letter is q?). I don't know the maker though.

Re: American coin? I'm not sure?

I see your query has been moved to the silverplated section. This is an electroplate trade mark of Harrison Brothers & Howson of Sheffield.

Re: Makers marks

Probably no significance at all. Maybe it was forgotten, maybe just stamped so lightly that it's been polished away. If you post a picture of the whole vase somebody might be able to attribute it to a particular maker.

Yes, it's 1919. The design registration number 595783 was issued in 1912.

Re: Unknown Silver Marks. Can Anyone Help?

There is enough of the maker's mark there to say that it is that of Wakely & Wheeler: JW over FCW = James Wakely & Frank Clarke Wheeler.

Re: Can't establish the year date on this item

It looks more like "r" for 1891 to me. I have previously seen this mark on an 1891 Birmingham-assayed brooch. Note that the punch shape for Birmingham date letters (especially the "q" and "r") does not always match that illustrated in books.

Re: Box

The mark is JS & MJ (still unidentified) and I think that the date letter is the 1992 S. I am in process of revising my dates-seen for this maker to 2001-2004 as I think that I must have misread the e for 2004 for that of 1960, having recently seen an example with a 2001 hallmark.
