Re: Vintage basket, unknown markings

Hi and welcome to the forum.

EGW&S is E G Webster & Son (see https://www.925-1000.com/silverplate__Init_E.html and viewtopic.php?f=38&t=50426). These are not the easiest of initials to read.

Hi, clebmill, and welcome to the forum.

To be sure about musilver's identification we need to see a clear, in-focus picture of the hallmark. This time please embed your image.

Re: Maker?only 1letter ,meaning of letter M ,date?

The hallmark is a Birmingham mark with the date letter "u" for 1894. The maker's mark would be HM - Henry Matthews. The M may have had meaning for the maker but has no meaningful significance for us now.

Re: Morris London watch mystery

The date letter is that for the assay year 1761/62. I note that the watch movement does not seem to fit too snugly into the case so the mechanism and case may not necessarily be from the same period. We are unable to identify the case maker; it is not shown in any published list of London marks and ...

A Sheffield company using the initials D(S)Ltd on sterling silver is Deakin (Silversmiths) Ltd, mark seen by me between 1941 and 1949.

Re: Help with A B & Co S Marks 1859

The marks which you can't decipher are EPBM - electroplated Britannia metal. And just in case you thought the number 1859 is a date, it isn't - it's just a serial or pattern number.

Re: Pocket Watch Help

There appears to be a maker's mark which could be HJ or #J in a skewed parallelogram. If you could identify that it might give you an approximate date range. Maybe one of our other contributors can identify it - I can't.

You didn't embed your first picture which is actually the one with all of the information: https://i.postimg.cc/9M1CzvMz/9811002-comwatch.jpg Here we can see Swiss hallmarks for 875 (or better) standard silver in use until 1933. In addition there is a numerical mark showing that it is actually 935 s...

Re: Scots Fiddle pattern? Makers?

If we are looking for makers whose initials are coincidentally the same to pin these marks to then I can suggest Dalziel & Hunter of Dumfries for D&H. According to the Edinburgh Incorporation of Goldsmiths Hallmarking Archive site they were working 1776 to 1779. The site mentions Archibald D...

Re: 18k Chester English Ring Old?

Hi and welcome to the forum. LEN is the mark of Lewis Edwin Neale of Northampton Street, Birmingham. He registered 4 marks at Chester between 1898 and 1905, describing himself variously as a jeweller or a ring manufacturer. I have tried to work out the date letter but have had to confess defeat. Giv...

Re: Unknown Provincial Mark B&L

There is definitely a B&L mark on that linked page, kerrsy, but it won't be the one in the original post for which we sadly no longer have the image. This topic would not have been moved to this section of the forum if it had had a Birmingham hallmark.
