Mike - the box could possibly be a tea caddy - but I'm going by the box's owner who tells me this sat on her mother's cocktail table for as long as she could remember - and it was always full of cigarettes.

I haven't had any luck in identifying the mark on this very large Sterling tray and I'm not sure if it's American or not.
