Re: Arabic numeral 833 silver mark. Brazil again?

Thank you Trev I am sceptical, very sceptical. There are similarities but I have uploaded a bigger version of the mark at the rear of the coffee bean finial. I do not recognise the last "3" as the "S" in you photo. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/zZ0_hUJ1CaznKaJbn_3akzH98F4n43s...

Arabic numeral 833 silver mark. Brazil again?

Hello I have seen a previous post concerning Brazilian silver hallmarks. Please note photos below. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-vaCL1fD26aRE2gRAVT_ZuTxPm0JSk9fVgHcFbuGr7o=w299-h207-p-no The song says there is an awful lot of coffee in Brazil but did the Brazilians also put a coffee bean on a f...

M.G.C&Son mark. McGlashan ?

Hello, thought I would try another of my silver plate queries. This possible makers mark is on a standard type dessert spoon. I believe the spoon is silver plated from wear marks on the finial. I have not found an obvious UK maker though it maybe that the “mark” is for a retailer. https://lh4.google...

Hello. Is this possibly another spoon with one of these Durham based Mercy Ashworth "dot" MA marks?

Re: “J.L” MAKER AND FOLIATED DUTY MARK

Thank you Trev for your rapid and value added answer. I am disappointed I was wrong again. Perhaps I should go back to fishing. The upside is however that I seem to own an over 200year old Exeter spoon. From my understanding of Miles Harrison’s Exeter cartouche article, this spoon cannot have been a...

“J.L” MAKER AND FOLIATED DUTY MARK

Hello I was recently looking at my spoons and this led to me rechecking one of my “contentious” teaspoons. It challenged me to review its limited hallmarks. The photo of the marks on the teaspoon is hopefully shown below. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-IIQtRhi3Zd8/UtA_9VysayI/AAAAAAAAAMQ/p9AkdEk...

DUTCH SILVER PLATE MARKS P and FIGURAL R

Hello very recently I got at auction a bunch of souvenir spoons. Most were routine silver plated examples but 2 spoons stimulated a bit of extra interest for me. Hopefully readable pictures of 1 of the spoons and marks are shown below. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/E5KcCAiFH6pFAIyqIOAcRQufBQBy4I...

World War II and silversmithing in the UK

Hello. I just found in an auction mixed lot, what appeared to be a boxed set of 6 silver coffee spoons. That was until I had a careful look at the hallmarks. The spoons were made by “Atkin Brothers” of Sheffield but there are different date letters. Hopefully the photos are below. https://lh4.google...

Re: “F.W” Silver plate mark. F.Wilson or F.Whitehouse

Thank you for your comments and extra info Trev. Thank you for agreeing with me this time. It would be nice if there were some other evidence to go on. I had hoped the registered type number on the spoon might be that. Is there anything other than date researchable with the number? Thanks again for ...

“F.W” Silver plate mark. F.Wilson or F.Whitehouse Hello I’ve just bought a bunch of mixed flatware from an auction to give me something to research during the UK winter nights. I didn’t get very far however as straight away I found a complication over some maker marks on a spoon so I’m turning to th...

GOTHIC POSSIBLE "JD" MAKERS MARK ON SALT SPOON

Hello,I have just acquired a a few electroplated "salt" type spoons that I believed I was familiar with the makers marks for. The spoon I was most confident about was the one shown below with it's "marks" in the inset photo. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-26l0-o1qpdo/UhKNpKHv...

Hello and thank you Oel for such a prompt reply to my query. I was undecided as to the silversmith type mark being “BS2” or “RS2” but at that time and still now I have not been able to make the Dutch silversmith web site work for me. I am listing a larger image of the marks. https://lh4.googleuserco...

Multi-marked (MG, WB & BS2) apostle spoon. Old continental s

Hello I recently obtained, as interesting, the 9 centimeter long probable apostle spoon shown below. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/rSgPYyqhCdcwvgnE88ehuSqW-5FhjUSCYahFmJ0c6nU=w389-h200-p-no It does not obviously appear British silver or silverplate. Thank you Cheryl, Bahner and Trev for your particularly prompt and expansive replies. It seems I will have tell my friend he was correct in his assertion that Antiko 800 represents a grade of silver and not a form of silver plate. Am I the only person that did not know that was true? At least I know...

20th Century Sheffield date letters “W/w” and others

Hello again. I cast my net for silver spoons at an auction recently, but I failed, for the lots I wanted. To avoid total disappointment I bid on and won some relatively mundane tea type spoons. I did think they were mundane until I came to identify the marks. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/CxUyG8...
