Re: Laxey silver

Hello Kirbyjohn, although I suspect you have likely lost interest by now (in fact I think you might have after the first year of waiting), here is a reply for some of your questions about “Laxey” silver but there could be stuff for other lookers. First sorry for the photos not being the best quality...

Re: Serving spoon marked with Maltese Cross 1877 cursive R 910

Hello, just noted this image on line. Seems very similar to the marks discussed in this topic. I know we are in the silverplate section but is that the definitive answer?

Beehive maker’s mark? Rudge Retailer?

Hello, shown below is a composite photo of a well marked fiddle pattern teaspoon I just bought. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/910/40060887360_1c8a9bb45d_b.jpg “Our” 925-1000 web site carries no reference in the “silverplate marks” section to a “beehive” figural mark or to any “S.Bros” makers. A qui...

Re: Newcastle Duty Mark Mystery

Hello, I must admit to you Phil I was very pleased to read your comment about the “spurious” 1804-20 duty marks. After looking at a large number of Newcastle marks over the past week, I had concluded the “Jackson’s” illustrations of the lobed duty mark may not have been correct. I suppose confirming...

Re: Newcastle Duty Mark Mystery

Hello, I am correcting myself. I just looked again at http://www.silvermakersmarks and now see that Newcastle seemed to change their duty mark from the “cusped” mark to a normal type head in the roundel from 1800. Does that mean that there are only up to 4 years when that “cusped” mark could be foun...

Re: Newcastle Duty Mark Mystery

Hello, I noticed the “cusped” duty mark was mentioned at odd times in this post and below is a picture of a small spoon (12 centimeters) that has come into my possession. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/BlvGCWkINnyZtTu8efK4we4Qzd_QDJWlgxuRvzXb_VC3caRC0rv-kqiEHTxMpDIFjeSXfIJOoa_KoIaPBSjRE4VL_PE96yY...

Thank you Legrandmogol for responding to my update to this post. This is a nice addition to my spoons and I hoped the photo might be useful for reference.

Re: S Hallmark Coin Silver Spoon

Hello, I have not been to this section before but I just bought the spoon shown below. I knew what I was buying having found the E&D Kinsey mark in the USA reference section of 925-1000. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/lS1CTTPXtNzVXDoVpCOhQfNbzutStsNje-OOfmGdpglf0WIlaRZPrvs6cWSQstGLieED5iBB11V...

Re: Scottish Provincial marks?

Hello and happy New Year 10 years on. I believe the photo below is an illustration to go with Dognose’s “early Colonial India silversmiths” comments. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/in-tr8e-SfqeFTzh5xGQsJldLRBazzurDh23rUw-o4LsKKuhaXjJDw1iac8FUFvGnwCPTDIj6Xa5CTRjIQ=w410-h220-rw When I first saw the...

NG silver mark. Not Chinese Export mark?

Hello sometime ago, last summer in fact I was an under bidder for an on-line spoon. I kept a photo of its marks as I did not recognise them at all. I felt there was a pseudo British duty mark and strange mark that had features a bit like the 90 mark you seen on some Chinese Export silver. Into my Co...

Re: British Retailers mark Walsall

Hello again, again, I just had a few days away in Lancashire and of course found a few flea market stalls to look at. I bought the set of sugar tongs shown with their marks, illustrated in the photo below. https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg These tongs, unlike the spoons that Dognose has illustr...

Re: British Retailers mark Walsall

Hello again I had a look on line for some more details on some of Dognose’s pictures. There seems to be information to be found on the “Taylor” of “Rochdale” silversmith. With a leap of faith the photo below could be that of the retailer’s shop. https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg The date of thi...

Re: Silver fork marked AT AT?

Hello, just noticed this when looking for something else. What struck me about the close up maker's marks is that could there be evidence for over-punching of the "A" letter? A relative changing the mark first name letter or a similar surnamed retailer?

Thanks Peter. I have just got back to my own WiFi system to be able to respond. A 200 plus year old Dutch coffee spoon is certainly a special in my collection.

CK silversmith. Netherlands possibly?

Hello I recently viewed a mixed silver lot at a local auction and noted it contained an interesting looking spoon. I could see an obvious “CK” maker mark plus 2 other obscure marks, one of which was possibly a curvaceous “Y” date letter. My first thought was that the marks belonged to an 1800 or ear...

WV maker mark with pseudo British hallmarks

Hello, I recently bought 3 WV maker mark spoons in a mixed lot. The 3 WV also had some pseudo British hallmarks on and came with the possibility of them being by the Canadian silversmith W. Venning. A photo of the 3 spoons in question is below. http://www.925-1000.com/td/f/Canada/Veith-1.jpg A quick...

Re: Loth Standard Spoon. Cloaked man finial.

Hello, thank you Aguest for your replies. It is sad that you were unable to recover any photos of the marks that you feel are the same as the one on my spoon. Your recollection that a Simon Groth assay master’s mark (1863-1904) was also associated with that mark on one of your items would certainly ...

Hello I had this trouble last time with "Tiny Pic". You only need to have 1 of the 2 "IMG" at each end of the address. Remember to use the "Preview" button to see what you will be posting, before you "Submit". I always find I've done something I hadn't intende...

Loth Standard Spoon. Cloaked man finial.

Hello, I recently saw and bought on line a small apostle style spoon. It had 2 marks struck to the rear of the bowl, 1 of which I thought was the “loth” standard mark that I associated with 19th century Germany although the spoon was suggested to be Norwegian. This spoon was not in my comfort zone s...

Re: Joseph G. Jodah - Ontario - Canada

Hello Dognose, another bus has finally come. I’ve actually been waiting for it for over 3 years. I recorded a photo of these unidentified spoon marks below from the inter net in May 2014. http://www.925-1000.com/td/f/Canada/Jodah-1.jpg I thought it likely to be Canadian Provincial but on first resea...
