Hi Nigel Can you describe the makers or town mark, it appears to be the 1902 date mark for London, this would be spot on for Liberty as in 1901 they formed Liberty & Co (Crymic) Ltd, when such artists as Knox, Silver and Cuzner were used. The Makers mark though sadly does not appear to be Libert...

If it is a "H" then with the duty mark would make it assayed in London 1883, as for the maker it would be the right date for Thomas Johnson, but that is the easy bit, there appears to be two Thomas Johnsons with very similar marks, my favorite is Thomas Johnson l, the reasons are as follow...

Makers Mark on Cast Tongs and amorial ?

The makers mark on these tongs is quite distinctive, but who is it ? Thomas Farren's mark is very similar (Grimwades 2755) but he was presumed dead by 1743 which would make these a bit early for cast tongs, the next candidate would be Thomas Fair which except for the star shaped pellets (Grimwades 2...

Cast Tongs were not made by Bucklemakers, out of the 50 plus pairs of cast tongs l have, to the best of my knowledge only two of the makers Montigue and Burrows registered as such during the period they entered marks at Goldsmiths Hall, and this was only for a short time in between changing from Sma...

Hi Ed

You are correct, Henry Holland entered two marks, this one on the spoon was his first mark entered in 1840 and used up unto 1860 when another different mark was entered.

Also on this spoon you have what is known as "Journeyman marks" (the two small dots)
