Re: Riding Crop London 1908/09

Hi Trev Thanks for the reply, it appears that James Smith a small worker entered his mark in 1877, his son took over as a smallworker in 1881 and then in 1904 the grandsons took over, the mark recorded is JS&Ss in three sizes. Although the grandsons were called Thomas and Robert, they kept the n...

Re: Silver Goblet/Chalice Hallmark ?s

l agree with Pat it is indeed a lovely piece, and the makers mark does appear to be John Fawdery 1st (Grimwade 662)

Re: A very early match case?

W H is a common mark, l agree with 1828, as for the maker l think it could be William Hunter (II ?) (Grimwades 3165) this mark was entered in 1824 and it is in a oblong punch,he did not enter anohter mark until 1834, so could be a contender?

Re: Lawson Co Glasgow Date Mark 1745?

Richard
There are several avaliable, if you want a good general coverage then may l suggest "Jacksons Siver and Gold Marks" edited by lan Pickford ISBN 0-907462-63-4, prices seem to vary from £41 upwards, if you want to specialise in London or other Citys then ask again.

Re: l T ? Cast Sugar Tongs

Miles and John Thank you both for your help, John, Tweedie would off been a good candidate for the date, but his mark had a pellet (Grimwade 1709) Miles l have looked and cannot find a maker with IT in any provincial maker, although my resources for this are not by any means exhaustive, the mark of ...

Hopefully this will suffice, if this pair are provincial then that will be a bonus, as l brought them as scrap because they were broken.

Re: Need help with London mark

Well l must admit l am confused, the handle does look very similar to a G 1st mug l have a photo of, my first impression of the jug was early 18th c with maybe rococo decoration which because of the influence of the Huguenot craftsman was in fashion, and not "victorianised" As for the hall...

Re: Is it London & who is the maker?

Hi
Josiah Snatt entered his mark on the 10th Jan 1798 as a smallworker, it is thought that he worked till 1817, the date mark on this item looks to me like London 1798 so l would be quite happy to attribute this item to him
