Hi all! Recently I bought very big cup, made probably in Switzerland. On checking the metal reacts as a silver, but the marka on the cup I don't know. Maybe it's silverplated? And maybe somebody knows what is "ORNIS"? Will be grateful for any help. https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg ht...

Re: I need help with this Please

Hi! It's silver item. "88" is the silver fineness in zolotniki (=916/1000). "AN" is the mark of St.Peterburg's maker Anders Johan Nevalainen. He was born in Finland in 1858, learned in St.Peterburg and became the maker in 1885. He worked for Faberge and his works are in Moscow St...

Dutch spoon, exported to England

Recently I bought nice spoon, made in the Netherlands and exported to England in 1891. British marks are quite clear to me, but relatively Dutch I have questions. Dutch marks: - Minerva head on the handle of spoon (unfortunately, the assay town letter is unreadable) - assay office mark; - lion rampa...

Re: Unknown mark

Hi Trev!
Thank you very much for your very interesting reply!
Indeed, there is a strip crossing the letter "N", but unfortunately there is no other marks.
I'll try to look for similar items on Italian silver auctions.
Best regards. Alex.

Zolotnik is absolutely right - this spoon is fake. But assayer "В.С" could be Viktor Savinsky, Veniamin Savinsky or Vladimir Smirnov...

Hi Mario! Your spoon is from Russia, Moscow, 1878. The maker is Ivan Alexeev (Иван Алексеев), assay maker is Victor Savinkov (Виктор Савинков). This information is from catalog of Russian silver marks of Postnikova-Loseva. https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg https://www....

Hi Tom! Thank you for your support. I hope we are on the right way. I think it's better to translate title of the article as: O.Maltseva, Mark that holds the secret. I.E.Zakhoder's steam factory of various silverware in Berdichev. ("Steam factory" in sense "factory, equipped with stea...

Re: About Russian mark "ИЕЗ"

I wrote "well-known" in sense that we know many items with mark " ИЕЗ " . I think almost each collector of kiddush cups has one or more items with this mark. About Israel Zakhoder you can read here. It's a science research but not a site of auction house: Ювелирное искусство и ма...

Hi Hose_dk! Hi joris!
Thank you for your quick response! Unfortunately, I viewed these marks at different angles and in different lighting and see no assay town letter - only small point :-(. So I very much hope that somebody knows this maker's mark.

About Russian mark "ИЕЗ"

Very useful and interesting work! But I would like to correct one inaccuracy. This inaccuracy goes from book to book. The mark " ИЕЗ ", especially on kiddush cups and other items of Judaica doesn't belong to Igor Zaviyanov. This is the mark of well-known maker Israel Eseevich Zakhoder (Изр...

Austro-Hungarian silversmith S.S

Hi all! I have the nice cup from Austro-Hungaria. I suppose it was made in the last quarter of 19th century by Viennese silversmith Samuel Steiner. However, since the town assay letter is unreadable I doubt it. Maybe anybody knows this mark? Be grateful for any information. http://i49.tinypic.com/2v...

Hello! It's Polish marks of 1891-1901 years, when Poland was part of the Russian Empire. "84" is the fineness of silver in zolotnik (=875), double-headed eagle is the symbol of Warsaw, "МЗ" (in Cyrillic) - maker's mark (I don't know him), "A" - Austro-Hungarian import...

Re: Sugar bowl - Danish or Norvegian?

Hello, Hose_dk ! Thanks for the response and support! I have to you two more questions. 1. Please look at my post about the salt shaker http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=30372 Maybe it's also from Norway? 2. Are there any online resources about Danish hallmarks, except http://ww...
