Re: Augsburg/Hanau silver wedding cup

Cannot help much with the marks but it is NOT Augsburg silver;it is enough to look closely at the craftsmanship.Silver made in Augsburg was of extraordinary quality and easily recognized without looking at the marks.

Re: SALT OR CONDIMENT CELLAR

Forgot something about ``double struck`` issue. Fakers are not stupid; If they can make nearly perfect silver or gold item, are they insane to miss such ``important`` thing and double struck? Beware of good marks.Fakers would never make such a stupid and easily disclosed mistake. It does not make sen...

Re: SALT OR CONDIMENT CELLAR

DOUBLE STRUCK ISSUE Well, it looks like this and, believe me,I have done it myself in jewelry and smaller silver items, - not on teapots, though ;two of us sit at the table and the item is on the small anvil in front of us.I hold the piece and the hallmarking tool upright, and ``assayer`` hammers it a...

Re: SALT OR CONDIMENT CELLAR

Have just seen this: ``If you knew it already what the hell are you then asking? I call that bad behavior. Don't expect me to answer any of your questions in the future. In addition, there is a silent agreement not to discuss fakes here, especially not why it is a fake and how it is done.`` Yes,I kn...

Re: SALT OR CONDIMENT CELLAR

I told you in the beginning I would not ask questions like fake or no fake, based on one photo attached, because I can tell a fake a mile away; how come? Because I have done some serious repairs, or added missing parts in silver just as a challenge, because I am in love with old crafts, and to help c...

2106 #PL says Dutkin,1838-1846.If the book is wrong not my fault - I mentioned the source, though.Hoping the mistake will be corrected in new editions. I will remember Dubinin and have already written his name beside 2106.Thank you.

Re: Faberge Catalogue and Price List - 1893

The original prices in rubles can be calculated based on the revised reform of monetary system in Russia in 1897; 1 ruble at a rate of 2 2/3 French francs or 0.774 grams gold.
The brooch number 1 in the catalog at 3.5 rubles would cost about $ 150 today.

Re: Faberge Mouse? Please identify!

I was talking about craftsmanship and the quality of an item. It may be 50% (although cannot understand why 50 % and not e.g. 45 % or 75%). Were the marks OK in the mouse, would it still be 50% Faberge? No way. If poorly executed it is too obvious. Will not engage in discussion regarding this; quali...

Re: Faberge Mouse? Please identify!

Fortunately, everything made by Faberge was of excellent craftsmanship and detail, including enameling, jewels etcetera. There is not need to look at hallmarks on many items questioned Faberge or not — poor quality tells it all.
