Re: F. OLNHAUSEN XII

Germany has always had well established and legislated silver hallmarking - nothing like that is seen here.Even if exported, there should be additional marks of the country where it was sold.Instead of searching for ``F.Olnhausen XII`` I would rather check it for silver; is it silver or silver plated?

Re: Baccarat Silver vase mark identification

http://i50.tinypic.com/2urul41.jpg One should always be suspicious with glass mounted in wherever metal; Zolotnink suspected Baccarat cut glass. Supporting his point of view, I have attached the photo of the most betraying part — where silver and metal were joined. This can tell us even more than a...

Re: Anyone know this hallmark?

http://i47.tinypic.com/2e6h2qf.jpg Possibly a late comment but helpful, hopefully. Amethysts and possibly rose-cut diamonds. Not well made at all. Bezel settings for amethysts are closed for no reason at all.Not even polished well. Prong settings (claw settings) are poorly executed and the ends of ...

Re: Lykketom

This is fumsup good luck charm popular in the late 19th and early 20th century and often given to soldiers in WW I. It was made in the form of a small person or baby. The name comes from thumbs up (I think ``th fronting`` must be Cockney; but have heard it in South East England, too). I am not famil...

Re: David Andersen, Christiania, Enamel Brooch 1886 ?

This is curious; spelling reform and it should be Kristiania from 1877. Another proof punches (hallmarking tools) with full lettering were expensive.

Re: George Jensen "Blossom"

#2 refers to the design number.Items were allocated a single design number but if made in different sizes they were marked with the letters , A , B , C etc.Meaning the dish was made in one size only, therefore no letter allocated. This is what I know: my teapot is #2 C.I suppose there were two bigge...

Eagerly waiting for additional photos; although very, very improbable they might change our opinion. Very interested in the way the cut glass was fixed to the rim.

Re: Help Russian marks cigarette case

If we only had a chance to sit together and examine either suspicious or genuine pieces, I am almost 100% sure we would agree on everything. I do not rely on books at all; fortunately I have spent some time working with silver. The future will tell — I am sure our opinions will not diverge - sometim...

Sometimes I buy silver for the sake of research purposes. This mark is most probably Austria — Hungary. Have not seen it so far, not docu...

Re: Help Russian marks cigarette case

My dear Zolotnik, Please, let’s end the discussion leading nowhere; OK — there were only 7 prescribed and legislated forms and dimensions of cigarette cases in Russia. I cannot prove otherwise, because some of mine are 1/4 inches shorter and therefore fakes. I can live with that, honestly. On the ot...

Re: Help with the armorial on a 1746 salver

Hand engraved as expected - very nice and skilled work.
Family crest of the original owner? Early 18th century silver was too often ``embellished`` during Victorian period.De gustibus non est disputandum.
Worth searching for;start with the hand. Not an easy task, though.Good luck.

Re: Mirror (frame) by Sebastian Garrard

Thank you so much! I remember Garrard repaired Norwegian crown some time ago. 1915 is interesting. The frame must have been given during The Great War;Serbia was incorporated in The Kingdom of Yugoslavia after WW I. Will try to search for provenance;many British services and regiments were engaged in...

Right, plain 'SG' here, but crowned ``Garrard & Co`` in full lettering.Plain ``SG`` was legislated mark, as you said.It seems they had full liberty with additional marks in whatever lettering, including the street.Have searched and there is no crown over ``Garrard & Co,Albemarle St`` But this...

http://i47.tinypic.com/wjb2gl.jpg I find this piece suspicious based on this: 1.The mark is not well struck and almost every letter in К.Фаберже is not what we except from Faberge 2.The circular mark like this would not leave any serious assay office.Let`s have in mind even in provincial to...
