Re: Edgar Finley & Hugh Taylor — London and Birmingham?

Hi Trev,
Very valuable information, indeed. Have seen really poor late Victorian pieces and sometimes could not believe my eyes; very thin weighted sterling.
Best regards

I suppose you would like to have the rim pulled out. It sustained a serious blow or most probably fell to the ground right on the top and bent inwards. Tie a strong rope around the neck and pull with the help of the family. It might work although it seems to be a heavy gauge silver - not an easy task...

Re: Where have the owls been hatched

Dear Oel, All I can tell they are extremely well made; I suppose lost wax technique and not simple casting in two halves and soldered together, as often seen with objects like these. At least, I cannot see any soldering seam. I may guess what you already know; most probably not Dutch overseas territ...

Re: Khlebnikov spoon???

Having seen this post another myth crossed my mind;``boxed items``.Often described at auctions, too; ``in original box``.This means nothing;old jewelry boxes are sometimes very expensive if genuine and bear an important maker`s logo.Besides, every old box can be reshaped and even impressions to fit a...

Re: Khlebnikov spoon???

Why are ``cells`` not closed everywhere and the enamel spills into adjacent cells? Red enamel is dull in appearance and spotted with dark areas. Translucent red enamel is the challenge, and they had better avoided it. Even Faberge experimented with it for years. Not many have solved the problem (A,M...

The characters on the top stand for ``pure silver``.I suppose this is important. As for the rest, it is not easy for us in the West to understand how difficult it is to read Chinese characters (China is a vast country as you know). We are working on it - any new data will be posted here.

Re: Unknown Austria-Hungary town mark

No maker`s mark in this one.Have seen Austrian- Hungary marks incorporating town mark and maker`s mark. This has to be provincial Hungary. I do not remember if we discussed this one;must be Ujvidek but the dove is incorporated within maker`s mark; probably not to interfere with ``13``Lot in town` mar...

Then I missed something or misunderstood with ``some exhibition`` and it was actually World Fair in London. So,Sazikov DID have Prince Albert and Queen Victoria mark, right? If so, the question is if genuine or fake. There are huge catalogs of World fair in 1851 with more than 500 participants from Rus...
