Re: Gold ring identification help

Hi, Imperial Russian gold had three standards in zolotnik: 56 , 72 and 92 . Pure gold is 96 zolotnik, so it is easy to calculate from the equation 96 = 1000: the value of 56 is 583.3 or 14K, 72 is 750 or 18K and 92 is 958.3 or 23K. In short, 58 was not gold standard.(Theoretically, it would be 610.5...

Re: Unknown marks

Are there dots in front of 0 ?

If no dots, then it`s 2000. I think I saw lower dot in front of 0, therefore we assumed it was 1990.

Re: Fruitbowl - Is this silver or plate?

Hi,
It is solid silver of .800 fineness made by E. Schürmann & Co in Frankfurt, Germany.
German Reichsmark crescent and crown was not obligatory, meaning the bowl is properly made.

Re: Bowl- origin?

Hi,
Looks like the mark of Hugo Böhm/Schwäbisch Gmünd (on the right).
German Reichsmark crescent and crown for silver on the left.
But, as suggested, larger images are really needed.

Duty dodgers / transposed marks. Re: Jug & Bowl

Hi, It is supposed to be second half 18th century Russian silver, rather rare to encounter even with modest items like beakers. Matching jug and basin in pristine condition after 250 years is something very unusual. Qrt.S mentioned marks on every detachable part before soldering , required by legisl...

Re: Silverplate Toast Rack

Hi,
Number is of no relevance; it is internal manufacturer`s production line or pattern number. Sometimes it`s sequence production number seen in e.g. German manufacturer Wilkens & Söhne (helps dating) but that`s not the case with your rack.

Hi,
The maker is Deykin and Sons, Birmingham.
It is not sterling silver, but silver plated. EPNS stands for Electro Plated Nickel Silver.

Hi, I have downloaded and embedded your images. It is silver plated (as clearly indicated with letters EP meaning E lectro P lated). The only TH I can tell was Thomas Harwood - Birmingham. Number 6469 is irrelevant for identification (it is internal factory pattern or production line number). Regard...
