Re: 400 year since the first Romanov entered the Tzar throne

It is still not 1 of April, but it is 2013 and it might be so that just because the 400 years of Romanov, a lot of Russian imperial memories will show up. The shown piece is an example of what may be presented. First of all, it is not correct that all give-aways from the tsar family were decorated w...

400 year since the first Romanov entered the Tzar throne

Occasionally, this unknown brooch popped up on the world scene, showing the last tzar Nicholas II. Gold, silver and 60 rose-cut diamonds. Backside without any stamps. Size 29 x 29 mm. https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg Front shows a detailed, almost photgraphic face of the tzar, an admirable min...

Re: Modern Russian Silver Open Salts

….. and as Zolotnik has shown us also such important set of antique enamelled open salt cellars, and some salt thrones, far from any Jeltsin post-modernism in silver art, let us go to the jewel of the crown in such an combination, a big salt throne, far from modern, Moscow 1888, 88 zolotniki. Full c...

Re: Modern Russian Silver Open Salts

The question asked by opensalt is very imprecise: the concept ”modern” as in “Modernism” could be any historical style back to art-deco or 1890-ies, “Russian” as geographical identity often includes the Soviet era. Further, opensalt is talking of “pre-Soviet era” as well as “Soviet era”. Is maybe op...

Re: Modern Russian Silver Open Salts

The generosity of Hephaistos, in well-being, alert and always open for wisdom-sharing, further, the feel-good atmosphere of this forum calls for another minor contribution. Leningrad, as far as known, did not produce saltcellers. Due to the logic of large scale economics and mass production, salt ce...

...... or, if back to basics, open salt with accompanying spoon, silver, gilt inside, spoon bowl gilt, 875/000 silver. Soviet neo-brutalistic design, extremely compact and heavy, 46 grammes (excl spoon), uncommon and for the nomenclatura only (the general, part-wealthy soviet comerade afforded proba...

Re: Modern Russian Silver Open Salts

As already replied, of the Pre-Soviet era (there were many of them), it is much more written and avaliable in the litterature. Just to add something, the absolute oppioite to the previous picture of Soviet perversion, a set of saltspoons, silver, gilt, 84, zolotniki, handles depickting the imperial ...

Re: Unknown Reval master

I have already mentioned that Ya N was assay master in Tallinn 1853-1869. One single year, 1860, Alexander Zagrebin stamped for the office/district 1860. But, also Ya N stamped this particular year. If somebody will deny the fact that it is impossible with two assay masters the same year, the explan...

Re: Unknown Reval master

Zolotnik has outdated information. He is denying the research litterature on estonian silver stamps which has confirmed the existence of Carl jacoby as silversmith in Pernu, published already 1939 (Henrich Laakmann: Das burgerbuch von Pernau II, 1787- 1889). Also Kaalu Kirme ( Eesti Hobe, Tallinn 20...

The origin is a drinking vessel, from the beginning these objects were cut in wood, particularly from a "vril" ( a bulb defect)from birch - tree. The word in swedish is kasa ( with a small ring over the a), in finnish-ugrinan samish langage (and old scandinavian) kausa. The word kowsch in ...

33, not 35, silversmiths in Paide are known by name. No one has a name similar to the photos. Neither exists any assaymaster in Paide with the initals PK, nor in Estonia.

Re: Unknown Reval master

It is not a Reval (Tallinn) master, it is a Pernu (ger. Pernau) master Carl Johan Ludwig Jacoby, stamping 1859 to 1898. The (to name unknown) assaymaster Ja N was stamping in Tallinn 1855-1869. Pernu had earlier its own town mark, not the general for the Tallinn district, the 3 "lion passant&qu...

Re: ЕП and "I. KOPF." mark on a spoon

I guess that readers would be a little unsatisfied, if Zolotnik's request stands uncommented -"verified knowlege" to participate in Silverforum? Is he recruiting from here to academic posts in the art history of silver, or what? Is he asking for a CV? Zolotnik's own rule to participate her...
