Rjumka set 2

Hi all I recently purchased a set of niello vodka cups I've learned, surfing 925-1000, that are called rjumka. It bears the soviet hallmark and the mark of the manufacturer seems to me the one of the post http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=22167&hilit=soviet" onclick="window....

Re: Howell, James & Co. Lid - Lots of Marks !

I would like to make a small addition to this thread. Some time ago I had a set of 9 pieces of glass of different sizes with silver lids made by James Vickery, London, 1861. Some of the lids was quite similar to that of Mrs. vintage. I wondered why some of the lids had the full set of marks, while o...

Maybe Scandinavian?

I read today the topic http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=29132" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I also have a spoon and a fork that seem to be of the late seventeenth century, in these too the hallmark have been struck twice. The hallmarks are extremely worn, but r...

Re: rescued from the crucible

Thank you Theo.
And thanks to Blakstone : his article solved the date problem.
I thought that the A in the circle was a dateletter (sorry I have written to the right side, I meant to the left side).

rescued from the crucible

I saved this ladle from the melting. I thought I had learned something on German silver but obviously not enough. I think that the hallmark in the center is of Berlin. The “A” mark on the right side I think is a datemark, but I could not find a list of the correspondences between the letters and the...

Re: Is this Stolberg mark?

Hi Balckstone to find only the maker mark in Italian silver of 1850-1870 is odd but not very odd. I have several example of that. Yes, there should also be two other marks - a standard/guarantee mark and an assay office mark, but it's not always the case. Maybe because of the political troubles in t...

Re: Old topics again

Hi Trev
Thanks for the answer
Is a pity that so much information being lost. I hope that one day there will be a site where the images remain always visible. I believe that I and many others would be willing to pay a small fee to fund such a site.

Old topics again

I'm looking at old topics to learn. Sometimes I can not see the pictures and do not know if this is a problem due to a flaw in my computer or not. The maker is Conti Mario, Arezzo, still in activity. You can see his monogram before 515 AR.

Re: Cake server

Hi Dad You're right, the first hallmark is almost certainly the mark in use in Sicily after 1826. However, looking closely at the left side of the mark, we see the rest of a previous imprint. I think the Cerere’s mark was struck at a later date over the earlier hallmark. If this guess is true, this ...

Cake server

I'm trying to find out the origin and an approximate date of this object. The cake server (is it?) carries three marks. The first on the left side is barely recognizable, but does not seem very important, as it seems struck on a pre-existing hallmark. The second one I think is the silversmith mark. ...

Re: ecclesiastical (?) tray

I think something looks wrong with the inscription. The sentence seems written in pig Latin, (if “collegio” is the subject, it must be at nominative, not at dative case, to me must be translated in mihi , ecc.) Furthermore the letters are conspicuously unequal, even if they seem carved by a skilled ...

The feminine head could be the Cerere's head used in Sicily after 1826, but I'm not sure.
Just a guess.
