A flask

At the bottom of this flask made by William Hutton, there is a mark "cross arrows".
Is this the pattern mark?

Re: Italian marks - which years?

Hi Alex be careful not to confuse the mark of the S. Mark lion (said "in moleca") of the republic of Venice, mint guarantee until 1811, with the mark that appears on your sugar bowl. Many companies in the Veneto region have used and still use the S. Mark's lion as a trademark, on objects o...

Re: What's it called and what is it for?

It could be Italian.
In that case R stay for "Riempito" (filled)
Should also bear the manufacturer's mark in a lozenge somewhere.

Re: Handling wooden handles

It is not clear, from the photos, whether the gray matter it is detached paint or some other material deposited. However the wooden parts of the Gorham set need to be cleaned. You have to rub gently with very fine steel wool until all the gray matter is removed, then use a fat matter for finishing. ...

munzbecher

I found a coined beaker. The coins are ancient, but the cup seems recent, made in the twentieth century, I think. Most of the coins are Austrian, many of Salzburg, so I assume that is made in Austria, but it’s not confirmed by the marks on the bottom. Can anyone give me some information? Thanks Amen...

Thanks to both
Thus this test verifies only the composition of the surface layer, and therefore does not guarantee that the object of kiwichef is made of solid silver

Re: I know,I know

Hi Qtr.S
Thanks for the response.
I keep wondering why a forger does not complete his forgery. Why make a punch with a non-existent itinitial .
For me it remains a mystery

I know,I know

I know, I know that 99% of Russian silver is a fake, but let me ask for confirmation to the experts. The mark resembles that of Ovchinnikov, but looks like only and begins with the letter C. Thanks if anyone wants to give me information Amena http://i46.tinypic.com/2n171hi.jpg http://i49.tinypic.com...

Re: De Hoog Silver ??

I've never heard about the test of silver with x-rays.
Some time ago someone told me about an electronic tester for silver, but the dealers for goldsmiths and silversmiths who I contacted did not know anything.
Does anyone have information on the matter?
Thanks

Re: Handling wooden handles

White spots are often due to the glossy film that is detached from the underlying wood. In this case it is not enough oil, butter or other fat product, you must first remove the film detached. You can do this with products suitable for stripping. The treatment, however, must be adapted to the type o...

I also have noticed that sometimes the acid don't react on freshly filed silver. Does anyone know why?
