I believe this is a Russian silver powder box, but the hallmark is a little banged up. Can anyone tell me what this item is and provide a date of manufacture? That reinforces what I've heard about this particular mark. I was told that the swan represents an imported small silver item and the P represents the Paris Assay office where the item was verified as silver.

That's a good suggestion, but won't work. Both a plate and the unidentified item have rim angles of about 20 degrees, so when the item is clipped to the rim of a plate, it sits at a 40 degree angle relative to the plate.
