HELP - Friendlander w/ London Hallmarks 1798.

What should I make of this 7.25" spoon. It is marked FRIEDLANDER and has very worn London hallmarks from, what, 1798? (though the date letter cartouche looks wrong.) The only mentions of Friendlander are in Glasgow and Germany. Appreciate any insight...! http://tv.llum.com/FullSizeRender.jpg ht...

PGP PBP mark spoon ID

I found this lovely spoon with a twist handle and bright cut decoration. It has no marks except the what looks like PGP or PBP in cartouches in the stem just above the bowl. Can't find anything about them. I'm not even sure this is silverplate. It came with a bunch of early-mid 19th century American...

Re: Dominick and Haff weighted basket

Hello all, Very interesting question. I have a 1950s cedar-lined Poole cigarette box. It is marked Sterling by Poole 82A on the bottom. No other marks. I have seen the same box, with the same model number, but with a "weighted" stamp just below the model number. My box weighs 617 grams, pr...

HERRMANN with LION stamp. ID help...

Hello, I purchased this terrific, large 21" table mirror. It's only mark is a stamp at the top - the name Hermann, with a left facing lion in a round cartouche. The frame tests sterling, but I may not have scraped deeply enough. Any ideas on composition and origin? Could be Germany, Austria, Sw...

Arrow and Seed?? makers mark ID

I just sold a brooch with this maker's mark. (The photo is of a gold earring and brooch set that has the same mark...didn't get a photo of the sterling piece.). The buyer asked for an ID and I promised to try to find one. It looks like an arrow through a seed or maybe a W.... Stumped. http://farm9.s...

Any information on Fabre Silversmiths Paris

I am looking for information on the French silversmiths Fabre. The workshop, based in Paris, also made silverplate objects. Any information on dates of operation would be appreciated.

ID mark H (sword) F #5 Squirrel and Fawn child's cup

Sorry, I misread the first letter in my previous post. I'd appreciate any help with this mark. Looks like the letters HF with a sword in between them, and the number 5. Found on the bottom of this delightful silver plate cup, with a squirrel handle and a hand etched fawn and squirrel scene. I'm told...

Re: Reed & Barton Sulgrave Manor Candelabra - Sterling??

Thanks all. I spoke with someone at Reed & Barton today and, while she was not certain, she was pretty darn sure the company never made a Sulgrave Manor candelabra in sterling. She also was pretty certain that the 5115 number definitively identified the piece as silver plate. I agree with JLDogg...

Reed & Barton Sulgrave Manor Candelabra - Sterling??

I found a pair of these candelabras in a consignment shop. They are marked Reed & Barton 5115 STERLING, with the 1950 year drum mark inside each base. The base is hollow and the walls are very thick, about 3 or 4 mm. No other marks anywhere on the candelabra. Did R&B make this pattern in ste...
