Re: Need help with these Chinese decor teaspoons

No doubt this spoon is from Indonesia and marked for 800 standard silver. My understanding of Yogya silver is congruent with the information in the link provided: meticulously handcrafted and signed by an artist, even if unidentified. I wonder if the term "Yogya silver" is broad enough to ...

Re: Salad servers

Hi Have a look at Web under American marks. http://www.925-1000.com/americansilver_W.html Web made a good number of sterling photo frames, sterling weighted candlesticks, and sterling rimmed glass compotes in the 1950s-1960s. Usually the sterling is the lesser part of the product. Most likely the sal...

Re: Egyptian themed silver Bangle ( Revival?)

Hi, The marks are, from left to right: (1) .800 standard assay mark with a city mark incorporated. The city mark is indistinct in the photo. (2) Egyptian national mark (a lotus flower), in use from 1946 until present. (3) A date letter in Arabic. Please see "Egypt" on the "World Hallm...

Re: Egypt

I think the Egyptian city marks are well known, other sites show them and even Divis lists them as 1983-1994 in Silver Marks of the World . Egypt is about half a world away from my primary area (the Far East), but you may be right about the bracelet being Bedouin. The bracelet may have been produced...

Re: Egypt

The mark to the left of the lotus flower is for .600 silver standard.

In the same mark, the city is just above the .600, and looks like Alexandria or perhaps Cairo. A better pair of eyes (or cleaning the bracelet) might be required.

Re: Unknown Chinese marks help please

This looks like Straits silver.

The "sun" like mark is reminiscent of similar marks in this thread:

Someone else may have a better idea.

Re: Unno Shomin Japanese marks

Hello Justin, Thanks for posting clear photos of the item. In the first photo (which is properly oriented), there are five characters that read from top to bottom, "un no sho min zo." This translates as "Unno Shomin, made by." I see no silver mark, but would be surprised if it we...

Re: Help identifying this older Asian Solid Silver Spoon

Hello The mark or engraving on the back of the bowl of the spoon contains no Chinese or Japanese characters. To the best of my knowledge, this "mark" is no form of writing but probably a stylized version of a castle inside the outline of a flower, which could be merely decorative. I see no...

Hello I believe the maker's mark reads ACME in Gothic script. This mark is different from the one commonly used by the Acme Silver Co of Toronto, so it may have been manufactured by another Acme. Hopefully, someone else will provide more information. In my understanding, DWTS stands for pennyweight ...

Re: Japanese Silver case help identify mark

The retailer had shops in, China, Japan, and India.

In this case, the maker's mark is written in the Japanese style.

The provenance of the piece would be most illuminative in determining whether it is definitively CES or JES.

Re: small cup marked 950 and unknown Makers mark

There was lengthy discussion of this same conjoined B M mark in two earlier threads, which can be seen here:

As Cheryl has already written, the mark is certainly Greek, but the maker remains a mystery for now.

The bottom two marks 三越 are the retailer, the famous Japanese department store Mistukoshi, founded in 1673 and the core company of the Mitsui group.

These are twentieth century marks.

New research reveals that without a doubt, the mark on the right is not Hyakueido 百as I previously surmised, but Tenshodo 天賞. This Tenshodo mark is written in an abbreviated, cursive style of writing that is difficult to decipher. Dognose has provided information on Tenshodo in the Contributor's Not...

Re: Silver Sugar Dish Marked 90%

While this form is often called a "rice bowl," I think these are usually reserved for making offerings of food or drink on a Buddhist altar. The majority of Burmese homes have some form of altar.

The 90% mark looks quite recent.
