Hi Linda, According to "Chinese Export Silver 1785 to 1885" (pub. Museum of the China Trade, 1975), your mirror was made by Wang Hing, a Hong Kong silversmith located at # 110 Queen's road in the late 19th and early twentieth centuries. The '90', when seen on European work, designates silverplate th...

Hi Dudley, The marking system in Norway, since 1891, has required a numerical mark to indicate silver fineness (830, 900, & 925 most commonly) and this fineness stamp to be placed in conjunction with the maker's mark. The numbers on your piece don't work for this and are likely pattern numbers, ...

Hi All, The fleur d'lys, is most often found on pre-19th century French silver, but it was also used in Austria-Hungary, Germany, Denmark, Italy and Czechoslovakia, to name a few. As a French mark, it would have been used inconjunction with a number of other marks, and not with a silver purity numbe...

Hi, Beautiful brooch, I've just double checked in Tardy's Poincons d'Or and, you've assessed it correctly, the mark is for .750 gold and used after 1919. The star C mark is the maker's mark, it is badly stamped, in a clear stamping we'd see the entire diamond shape of the mark with another easily di...

Hi, The "cloverleaf" maker's mark belongs to Alexander Sturm of Vienna, a well regarded maker and I believe they still are in business. Regards, Tom ps. There will not be an .800 mark, as Jorg explained, within the mark of the woman's head (Diana), there should be a single letter (indicates city) an...

Hi Jay, It is not possible to date it exactly. 586 is the pattern # and was issued between 1856 & 1860, this Tiffany mark format was used until c.1870. We can only conclude that it was made between 1856 & 1870 with certainty. Stylistically, I don't see Tiffany producing it beyond 1865. The o...

Hi, I suspect, from the style of the piece and the conflicting town marks with the use of a later .800 mark, that the item is an example of Hanau silver. Hi,

The sauceboat has the 'hand' maker's mark of A. G. Schultz & Co. (1899-1950) of Baltimore, MD. Polack would have been the retailer.

Hello,

The little spoon is the maker's mark of Nils Hansen Sølvvarefabrikk of Norway. They are still in business and I believe they are located in the city of Oslo.
Soon, I will be adding a page of Norwegian maker's marks to the website, an example of this mark will be included.

Hi Cinderella,

T. McKinney is likely the name of the retailer of the spoon. The maker's trademark is the symbol to the left of the "sterling" mark. Unfortunately, it is too small to make out. Can you add a close-up of it or at least a verbal description.

Hi, Sorry, it is not a piece of antique silver from Germany. The marks are the trademark of E.G. Webster & Son of Brooklyn, NY and are used on their silverplated ware. Rainwater indicates that the mark is also used on some of their sterling ware, but this would only be in conjuction with a "STER...
