Coincidental or not, it is good that the information was posted. Elimination is an important part of the identification process. Over the years, I've seen a fair number of pieces made by this company and I think that "E in a rectangle" must have been a fairly small manufactory. Their outpu...

There was a Porfirio Lugo working in Taxco in the fifties. The mark would translate as P. Lugo, Artistic Silver.

Hi Silverly,
I'm sure it is Wood & Hughes and would date it to the mid 1860's.

The conjoined Hc is the Hopicrafts mark, the company was originally named Hopi Enterprises, but only for its first year or so. That change took place around 1961 shortly after the company moved from Phoenix to Kykotsmovi, AZ. It operated as Hopicrafts for a couple of decades. In the early years thei...

Great item, Trev. Went looking for Nelson's gold example but could not find an illustration of it. Learned it was sold at Christies in 1895 and was soon thereafter donated to a British museum. Here is a link to another of Nelson's knife/forks, clearly one of his more utilitarian (what, mutton again!...

The law of 1884 made .800 the minimum standard for Germany, but it did not set any specific standard for manufacturers to use. Consequently, many standards above .800 were used, the most common I've encountered are .800, .835, .900, .925 and .935, but there is no reason why a maker could not use .83...

Hi,
Your item would fall into the "sterling novelties" category rather than "holloware", and would generally not carry a date mark. The trademark it carries would date to the mid to late 20th century.

Hi,
I think the third mark may be a small Austrian assay mark, if so, the clover leaf would then be the maker's mark of the Alexander Sturm firm.
