Re: Does anybody now the origin of this owl caddy?

Hi Trev, thank you for your post, I actually have an Indian tea set - I had never thought to compare them before, but the style does look very similar! http://i49.tinypic.com/2z9ibza.jpg It is disappointing that the makers do not sign some of their pieces - here is a photo of another owl caddy also ...

Re: Does anybody now the origin of this owl caddy?

Hi David R,
Thank you for your comment! The only thing I do know is that it's not silverplate. It has been properly tested by a silversmith. It just doesn't look European to me - I may well be wrong!
Thank you for taking the time to reply...
Best wishes, Jo.

Does anybody now the origin of this owl caddy?

Hi there, this owl caddy is really beautifully detailed - it has been tested and is at least 900 silver. The only mark is on the base - T90. Does anybody know what this mark means - I was told once that the 'T' may stand for Tola - I can't seem to find any information about it. I am unsure about the...

Re: Articulated horse watch fob? Origin?

Hi again, have managed to get a closer photo of makers mark, the initials appear to be CP or GP with a sword between the two letters - there may be another symbol below the sword. I have looked through the directory of French silver makers and I'm not too sure if any of them quite match. Anyhow here...

Re: Articulated horse watch fob? Origin?

Hi AG2012, Thank you so much! I love this little piece and want to find out as much as I can about it, thanks to you - I know where to start now! I will try to take closer photo's of the makers marks and see what I can come up with. There are further marks up the chain also, where another link fas b...

Hi Oel,
thank you for your reply - I agree, it is like looking for a needle in a haystack!
I was/am hoping that somebody recognizes it, it was worth a try!
Many thanks for your comment - all the best, Jo.

Articulated horse watch fob? Origin?

Hi there, I have had this piece for quite a long time now and have always wondered where it was made or what it is! It is engraved with eagles and rampant lions, all parts are articulated - the head, neck, stirrups, tail and all four legs. There is a spring like mechanism inside for the legs. The ch...

Re: Novelty silver - any idea of maker?

Hi Oel,
thank you very much for your lightning fast response! That has cleared that up for me - it is not a makers mark. Thank you for the information, it is very much appreciated....
Best wishes, Jo.

Cockerel caddy - is it Dutch?

Hi there, I bought this caddy or spice box {head comes off} a little while ago. When I bought it I was told it may be of Dutch origin - but I really don't know. The only mark that I can see, is on the neck - but there may be another mark elsewhere that is lost in the detail. Does this mark look fami...

Novelty silver - any idea of maker?

Hi there, just wondering if anybody can identify the maker of these pepperettes? I'm not sure if the mark on the neck is a makers mark or an import mark - any input would be great! Thank you, Jo. http://i47.tinypic.com/2w5oqbt.jpg http://i48.tinypic.com/212vbpi.jpg http://i49.tinypic.com/2d6nnfo.jpg

Re: Irish provincial maker?

Hi Trev,
I most certainly will post other provincial marks - they are all regular Cork makers.
I also collect novelty silver and have difficulty determining the makers on a couple of pieces - so will post some photo's later on. Great forum! Thank you again... Jo.

Re: Irish provincial maker?

Hi Trev, thank you so much! I was sure that I would never find the answer to this one! Other people who have looked at the mark and thought that the last letter was an 'N' , although in this photo it looks very much like an 'H' - it depends on the angle and the eye I guess! I will try to research Jo...

Re: Irish provincial maker?

Hi Trev, thank you for your response. This is the photo with the best detail - I am not sure if it is the same spoon but it is exactly the same design anyhow! It is engraved with 'Loretto' - as the other provincial spoons were - from Loretto Convent, Fermoy in Co. Cork. I have researched it to the b...

Irish provincial maker?

Hi there, I am hoping someone could help me identify the maker of this spoon. I bought it along with several other Irish provincial spoons but do not recognise the maker and have done some research to no avail. The 'ster' mark is a little rubbed but the 's' can be seen at certain angles - makers ini...

Re: Early London marks?..Help!

Hi there, thank you Agphile, Trev and Pat for your input! I have been a collector for a while now but was a little confused by these marks - so your ideas could well be spot on. The only London date letters I could match with was either 1694 or 1696 - but could find no match for the maker. It has be...

Early London marks?..Help!

Hi there, new to the forum. I am a little stumped by the hallmarks on this jug, they are quite rubbed. Hopefully someone with more expertise can help. The makers mark looks to be 'LI', but can't be sure and I cant find a match in reference books. It is a large gilt jug with what looks to be either a...
