Re: Whiting coin silver pre-1860?

Cheryl, Thank you so much, had read that about being referred to as Duhme's No. 1 pattern in a reference attached to another image. Would that mean that this particular pattern was produced by them or just marketed in their stores under their brand as it were? Let me post a cropped turned and hopefu...

Re: Bergen makers mark 1891?

Hose,

They are all valid points, was only looking at the idea of someone else using a master's mark after the other man's death. I'm sure that the vast majority were extremely honest and industrious. At some future point we may be able to identify who actually made this spoon.

Many thanks

Re: Whiting coin silver pre-1860?

Thanks Silverly appreciate the imput. Now when you refer to the mark that has been in use since 1868, we are referring to the Whiting makers mark yes. And right once produced a pattern remained in use until retired. Now, what is the name of that pattern? Had been speculating that the capital A next ...

Re: Whiting coin silver pre-1860?

Hmmm, have attempted to resize these images before posting to under the 800X600 image size. They are not coming out that way. Any advise on how to further adjust them would be appreciated as well. Will wait to see how many eventually load before attempting to post further images.

Whiting coin silver pre-1860?

Whiting Manufacturing Company was founded in 1862 according to common knowledge. This pattern marked coin and an A appears to predate that year. Have also been unable to identify the pattern. Have also identified three different retailers associated with this pattern; G.H. Hull, Meyer and Graffe, Du...

Re: Unidentified mark silver-plate vase

Thank you David so much for taking the time to review the images. Was using the sailboat as a water reference like Yokohama. There was also that also Y. Konoike in Yokohama but I noticed that he marked his work as Konoike. Attempting to pull up lists of postwar companies yielded no results. Punching...

Re: Mini tongs "Head" maker mark ?

Bob,

International seems like a possibility but Wilcox & Evertsen is also similar. Know nothing about them just looking at their mark on another site.

Hope this helps

Re: Bergen makers mark 1891?

Thank you gentlemen for the spirited discussion. Does that possibility explain the intrusions in the makers mark below the I and above the B which you can also see in the lot number and the year mark? In today's vernacular that might be considered to be trademark infringement, fraud, or at the very ...

Re: Stockholm / 1814 / makers mark SB?

Q, Thank you so much for clarifying my confusion on the particular design of Samuel Blomberg's makers mark then illustrating the other variations. Before cleaning it with a soften wooden toothpick, a technique you have all taught me, was not sure what I was looking at. Since this was my first Swedis...

Re: Unidentified mark silver-plate vase

Well done Trev, have found three plated objects, mostly containers, so far with the same mark that clearly read "made in occupied Japan".

Now let's see if we can track a manufacturer that begins with the letter Y.

Re: Unidentified mark silver-plate vase

Yes Trev it is reversed and straight on but the similarity is striking. Japan? Thought the last letter in "made in... was an N, that would fit. May be pre-1945 even pre-1938, only because many products particularly decorative goods made after the surrender were marked "made in occupied Jap...

Re: Bergen makers mark 1891?

Yes Trev thank you, did notice that it clipped off part of my first image of the finial. Hose and Qrt.S, Is it possible that the first letter is an L? The protrusion into the cartouche below that first letter may be obscuring the right sweep of the letter. Note above the B there is another one. Woul...

Re: Swedish teaspoon - who is maker?

I do understand your confusion on identifying the two letters of the maker's mark. Have only recently purchased a large Swedish serving spoon dated 1814 from Stockholm, what looks like SB has an additional design/mark/image to the right of each letter as well. Yours appears to have the same issue. O...
