Re: wedding or baptism spoon- town mark and maker?

In response to goldresearch I have looked closely at the mark and believe it is crossed swords. Having just received my copy of Tardy I am moving towards Kesmark (Austria-Hungary) as a possibility for the city mark, and particularly the mark between the points is not disimilar to that in the early 1...

Re: wedding or baptism spoon- town mark and maker?

Hello AG2012, Thank you for your response. I will admit that this was my initial concern also when I first looked at the spoon but I could not see how a hollow faceted handle (complete with blow hole)and a solid bowl could be manufactured in one piece and so, in my mind, the fact that these were cle...

Re: wedding or baptism spoon- town mark and maker?

Hello goldresearch, Thank you for responding. Sadly I am unable to identify the mark to the side of the double cross. I have enlarged the picture and hopefully this may assist you. I have also enlarged the other mark, which is definately the digit number 3, in quite a florid script but which does no...

wedding or baptism spoon- town mark and maker?

Hello, I recently aquired this spoon and have been trying to identify the origins. The spoon is 185mm long overall, the finial (Virgin Mary?) is 50 mm long and the bowl is 60mm long by 50mm wide. The stem of the spoon is hollow and there is a blow hole just under the finial at the rear. The back of t...

Re: who designed this Austrian silver dish?

This was my understanding also. Whilst collaboration with Hoffmann and Prutscher was on hold during the second world war it recommenced afterwards. See attached link. http://www.ottowagner.com/special-exhibition/archive/2006-en-US/alexander-sturm-en-US/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;...

who designed this Austrian silver dish?

I have a silver dish hallmarked with the toucans head, letter w and the number 4, it also has 800 for the silver. I understand this to be manufactured in Vienna after 1922. It also has a maker mark of the four leaf clover mark for Alexander Sturm. The dish is 15cms diameter and the base is 8 cms dia...

Re: unknown hallmark and makers mark on beaker

All, I have found a web site posting (on what looks like an early version of this site) with a response from Blakstone who is a member of this site. This posting has a beaker that is remarkably similar to mine in style and embossing, although mine does not have the handles. The web site link is belo...

unknown hallmark and makers mark on beaker

Hi, I recently purchased at auction the silver beaker shown in the images. The rim is at fault, probably due to age. I cannot determine the hallmarks or its age or country of origin. Can anyone help please? The auction description was: A silver beaker, possibly 18th century, the tapering cylindrical...
