Re: Malcz dish

Hi - I do not understand why you do not accept the history and the facts. Malcz started his workshop in 1828 (!) not in 1852 (!) and gave the leadership of his shop to August Theodor Werner 1864 (!). He died 1867. All this authors copy from copys and do not proof the facts. According to the politica...

Re: Is Fake or Not? 7

Hi Smokanabeach - when you come from French silver collecting as you stated - than the step to Russian silver is easy. You already know all about quality, marking, where and how to look , different time periods etc. You just need some good books about Russian silver. My suggestions: No 1, the best b...

Re: Is it Fake or Not? 5

Hi Smokanabeach - now the lessons I wanted to avoid are beginning: To make a long story short, you must get some literature in your language and learn about the marking rules. Then you need a book covering the different towns, assayers and silversmiths. If you have read and understood all this books...

Re: Is it Fake or Not? 3

Hi Smokanabeach - Now you show that you have not done your homework. How can you estimate/collect an object if you do not know at least the most essential marks and how the Russian silversmithing worked. Please do not ask the forum for private lessons - there are enough books on the market or in lib...

Re: Is it Fake or Not? 2

Hi Smokanabeach - before you start to collect something like Russian silver, you must know the history, background, laws, rules, marks and what you really want. Than after starting slow (unexpensive) with small objects, having done your homework, watching the market (esp. the fake market!), having b...

Re: Is Fake or Not? 7

Hi Smokanabeach -

in this case you have a pair of fakes!
The marks are lookalikes, the engraving is poor, unprecise and complete different from eachother. Have a close look and measure!

Re: Is it Fake or Not? 5

Hi Smokanabeach -

maybe No 3 and No 5 are from the same maker, compare the pattern - your photos are difficult to read for me. Long distance diagnosis is always a little problematic.

Hi Smokanabeach -

all your shown stopki are authentic! I am just too lazy to explain each single stopka. Better show only one object per query!

Re: Persian silver?

Hi Catracha -

your spoons are def. Persian. First mark is silvercontent 84 = 875/100 (for historic reasons Persia took the same silverstandard like Russia), second mark is the maker - all written in Efarsi (Pers. language).

Re: Malcz dish

Hi silvercollector99 - I am afraid that your salt dish (that is how the sellers name this vessel) is one of the many fakes. Real Polish silver under Russian rules is differently marked (acc. to Russian law). Here 2 photos of correct markings: http://i529.photobucket.com/albums/dd334/Postnicov/Malcz0...

Hi silverstork -

though the photos are not the best, I read the following:

Moscow 1865, silver content 84 Zolotniki = 875/1000, maker ПЕЦЪ К. Я. = Petz Konstantin Jakovlewitsch 1835-1875, a wellknown silversmith! A nice piece which needs some care...

Re: Please help identify this Niello Case

Hi -

a pageturner is something you used to turn pages! In contors, at your home etc. It was also used as page marker or to tear pages from books, agendas and notebooks. Nothing religious!

Length differs between 25 cm and 35 cm.
